Damien 'Puuk' Foletto answered a question about animations for the CNPCs/Ghouls/Mutants and why JE ealier said they didn't have time to do that many animations:
It's all about the animations. The PC will have far more animations because of all the skills and the development of the skills (fancier moves and perks that add to the skills). NPC's won't need all these extra animations, but the CNPC's will reflect change in armor, etc. That stuff is pieced together just like the PC's. So if you want your CNPC to run around in a dress (for example) and put it in their equip slot, they'll look like they're running around in a dress.
The funny thing is tho, they've ealier said that they done the RT/TB system evidently working on the rest right now so why no time to do animations ? Of course it's alot of work, but hey let's face it..this game won't come out for another year or so (seems like alot of time for me).
Linky: Thread

And in a thread about motorcycles in Fallout 3, JE appeared and said this:
Motorcycles running on SECs or MFCs are just as feasible as a Highwayman, but there is always the companion NPC problem. You could only carry three, max, even with a sidecar.
Sounds sane enough..

I don't know... I don't like the idea of making things more logical and realistic while hurting the gameplay.

Sure, a highwaymen won't be able to take 6 humans and a dog, but I would still like to do so.

Imagine yourself playing a charismatic charecter and getting 4 followers, and then finding a bike. You'll have to either forget about the bike or forget about an NPC, both of which are annoying.

About animations:

No, we have the resources and time to do human PC animations, just not ghoul and mutant PC animations. Hence, that's the main reason why there won't be ghoul and mutant playable races (plus it makes more sense with the current story, imo, not having ghoul and mutant PC's).

Puuk? Puuk!!! Hurray, welcome here(even though it's not my place to say it), good to see that not all of the BIS people are avoiding "hardcore" fan sites like this....:D

As well as that, I'd say that it's very hard to do a lot of animations, and also unnecessary when looking at races and other things. For as far as I know, simplifying things without taking away from the gameplay and such is always a good thing...

So would that make the CNPCs animation limited as well or will you limit the selection of CNPCs ? ie no ghouls/mutants can join your party.
Or will your character be the only one who can go into stances and such, that would actually ruin many of the commands you can give the CNPCs.

Puuk - you should hire me to do player animations (note: I'm dead serious) if its built to move I can make it move, and if its not built to move I can build it to move... check out the website:

My personal opinion on this is that with 2-4 dedicated animators you can do anything in the 1 year time frame. I understand the "playing safe" stand point, and I also understand that you guys may as well be working on it and don't want to promisse something that you may not deliver in the end. My thinking is that with a totally 3d engine it is much more feasable to do this, since u don't have to prerender the whole character with equipment changes, and there are tons of different ways of accomplishing this, and its really quite doable.

The CNPC animations won't be limited, per say, but will not have the variety that the PC will have, nor should they. The PC will have access to perks and abilities that the NPC's and CNPC's won't, especially since you won't be able to assign the CNPC perks as they level (they have their own agenda). The PC is the hero, or anti-hero, and his/her abilities should exceed (or eventually exceed) the commoners in the world.

Not my call and it doesn't look like we're hiring at the moment. Sorry. But you can check http://www.blackisle.com/employment.html every once in a while to see if we are.

Hello Puuk, nice to see a BIS developer braving a 'hardcore' fan site :) If you can drag JE away from somethingawful's forums, it'd be good if you could get him to post here as well. Either way it's a positive sign that you're posting on here. Although NMA doesn't get as much traffic in the forums as the BIS forums, a lot of that is because - see below.
To Briosafreak and other mods: there seem to be an awful lot of forums on NMA, too many IMO. Most of the forums only have ten or twenty posts, and a lot of them could be combined into one forum that would make browsing a lot easier. For instance, a general Fallout talk forum, and a spoilers/help Fallout forum. News announcements could be made sticky in the general forum for a set period of time, or there could be a loicked 'news' thread that's updated only by the mods.

Off topic: Puuk, what do you think of Brian May and Roger Taylor performing some more these days? I have the mp3s of them playing at Pavarotti's charity concert in Spain a few months ago, they did four songs (We Will Rock You, Radio Ga Ga, Too Much Love Will Kill You (Brian duetted with Pavarotti), We Are The Champions). I thought they sounded truly excellent, musically they still 'have it'. Especially Roger's pretty impressive drum solo and the end of We Will Rock You. And I don't mind themselves being called 'Queen' either, but that's a different argument.

I've been looking at that, but as for the news forum. We won't change that, it needs a forum of its own. But I'm thinking about merging some of the forums..

BUT that's not the main reason we don't have that many visitors, its a given that the IPLY boards get more traffic since we are a Fallout only site..

Odin, please don't make 2 topics with the same title two days apart. It can't be that hard to think up some thread names. :)
