IPLY have hope

The investors on the Raging Bull forums have yet again contacted Luke Haas, this time around they asked how long things could go on like it is now and here is his respons:
Most of what you're asking about is hypothetical, and nothing I can really officially comment on. You're right...things are strange with no offices or employees or web site...and clearly things cannot go on like this indefinitely. However, the two recent announcements, along with management's work underway now, provide at least some reason to believe things will
change somewhat soon. The definition of "soon" is what is debatable.

As I am saying far too often the past few months, sorry I cannot be more helpful or specific
Yet again the investors have a glimmer of hope in their eyes, still doesn't prove that there is hope tho..

Sure, a company which consists only of management. They don't have a problem, really. Employees just cost money.

It's going to take a fire-sale to pull Interplay out of it's nose dive.

I would bet that (with the exception of the FOOL), they'll dump everything except for their Dark Alliance IP.

I can see Earthworm Jim/FreeSpace being next on the block.

According to frychuman of Ragin'Bull: "this email from Luke gave me some hope. Basically, he is saying that the recently announced deals that Interplay has struck, between Bethesda, and the agreement with Atari and Vivendi are giving them good momentum and he suggests that more good things are brewing but that it could be a long wait. In a way, what Interplay is doing is good. They don't have to worry about rent, paying employees, etc. They can concentrate on getting as much cash/financing as they can and then getting back in in a much healthier financial position."

Wow. Talk about not seeing the reality of the situation.

They don't have to worry about rent

Yes, they do. Herve still owes the past due rent to Arden, and that will take a chunk of the Bethesda money right off the top.

They don't have to worry about ... paying employees

Afraid the CA Labor Board has something different to say about that. The longer Herve delays paying off all the backpay to his employees, the more penalties will be added on a daily basis.

I know Interplay cut a single full paycheck for the employees after the Bethesda deal.

They can concentrate on getting as much cash/financing as they can and then getting back in in a much healthier financial position

The thing is is that no one wants to deal with Herve. His reputation in the industry is about as high as Interplay's stock, and once Titus goes under in October, all his remaining credibilty will be gone.

it might be in the begining of september actually, if Titus doesn`t pull a miracle like Mandrake did.

Derek Smart - the WONDERFUL GENIUS  who brought us Battlecruiser - has already contacted Interplay about buying the Freespace license.

It might be better for Earthworm Jim to go to somebody else. Imagine playing Earthworm Jim: Brotherhood of Sparrows.

Dude, don't even joke about that.

Did anyone play that EJ 3d game? Jezus that was a piece of crap.

I emailed Microforte last week and I asked them if they could release the sprite editors for FOT and got a reply back from them today, seems like Interplay still owns a few bits and bobs around the place. Not that people would pay for the editors....

Thanks for your email. I'm very happy you enjoyed FO Tactics.
Unfortunately Interplay own the rights to all the source code, and it
would be up to them (we are contractually bound) to decide to release
it.
