Ipod question

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
Orderite
Just had to do a reformat of my HDD, and therefore lost my mp3 library. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on how to move my mp3's from my ipod to my HDD. I haven't re-installed itunes, because I don't want it to delete all the music off of my ipod.

I've seen a few programs that I could purchase to do this, but was wondering if anybody here has managed to find something opensource or free that can accomplish the same thing.

Thanks.

Thanks.... I don't know why Apple makes it so freaking hard to access MY music.

The freaking files get renamed when they are put onto the ipod... argh.

Thanks for the link though.

Yeah, the renaming thingy sucks.
Even other PC to iPod programs rename the files to 4-letter/digit names.

here's a good freeware for renaming mp3 files from the ID3 tags:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/aren.html
(disclaimer: I haven't used it yet)

or Google for others

If you didn't have ID3 tags, then you are up to a whole different task...

I just ended up deleting my freaking ipod and re-downloading or ripping cd's again.

Stupid apple.

Apple's fascist filedata structure is what kept me off from getting an iPod.

Mine was free or i would never have gotten it. I had to pull the files off my ipod once when vista corrupted on me in iraq, (thankfully i restored it fom factory settings but lost all my other data), Once you rip the files back to your hdd, if you had used itunes Consolidate Library option, and were connected to the net, it would have automatically changed all the names back by connecting to their database.

there's always going to be a few you have to go back in and re-name by hand.. but it worked for 99% of my music.

Unfortunately, you can't really beat iPod on storage space and functionality.
I still use it as a USB PenDrive for large data files (microscope images).

iTunes sucks big time, so I started to use MediaMonkey.
It's just much better to sort your music anyway you wish. And you don't need an Apple account do grab album information.
And it has a proper directory listing, unlike WinAmp, so it's good for music playing, too.
It's only problem is getting stuff back from iPod, as it won't rename things back based on ID3 tags.

I wonder if it's possible to burn MP3's to my A-Track.

Creative Zen 20 gig. old brick model without any avi/radio/jpeg etc. about 7,5 years old and still goes 8 hours a full charge on non-stop play (usually 15 to 20 on 25 volume grades w/o eq. boost)

The new slim models feel a bit... well flimsy to me :)

I would never buy an MP3 player that has a file structure that doesn't allow me to simply copy MP3s and folders onto the player as I would with a USB stick.

My parents have iPods and those just piss me off.

If the stupid player needs to import all MP3s into a database to play them, it should do so on the fly without touching the files.

Just like the stupid hidden files MacOS (and as of Windows XP, sadly Windows too) clutters all over my filesystems.
