Is ED-E supposed to be like... this?

First time out of the vault
In all my google and forum searches about my newly acquired companion ED-E, I have found out about many glitches and bugs, including him disappearing, randomly attacking you, or even massacring entire towns.

However, I have not found any information as to how ED-E found out about Star Trek, imitating the prowess of Species 8472 owning up the Borg.

In other words, I went through the Primm quest line to clear out the casino of Powder Gangers and instate a sheriff. I fixed ED-E and took him for a spin to the NCR prison to get Meyers to do the job. Whereas I couldn't hit a single bullet (I'm level 4), he took out every single of the bastards. Alone. In the bar, he incinerated everyone with his gun. When in the courtyard, he sniped every one in the towers. Then we went into the admin office, where there were about 7 of them in close quarters, and he melee'd all of them to death.

Is this really how strong he is? Or is there something going on?

Some information: I am level 4, first playthrough ever, and doing that on hard+hardcore. I have the ultimate edition purchased on Steam.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is kinda odd. In my experience he usually isn't as effective, often getting killed because he likes to run off so much.

Are you running any mods? I figure no but it's worth asking. Regardless ED-E gets much stronger later on, so if he is that strong now...wait until later on in the game.

I'm not running any mods, I even disabled some of the DLC that gives you crazy stuff like GRA. If he's gonna get even more powerful, I'm more inclined to just leave him somewhere, it's ruining the game for me, taking away any challenge whatsoever...

I'd like some more opinions of people, though. Is he supposed to be this strong, or is there something more at work here?

He certainly isn't supposed to be that strong (even though the Powder gangers aren't THAT strong). Has it happened again? Couldn't it be just a very lucky streak it had?

I don't know which ones are considered strong, but I moved on to Camp Searchlight and he took on all of the Ghoul Troopers and other zombie-like guys there on his own

He does seem to miss a lot against targets far away, same like me, but he has infinite ammo (I assume) so has no ammo concerns unlike me. I generally try not to shoot in VATS unless I have at least 40% accuracy. Maybe that's just a newbie thing though, and I'm supposed to shoot at 10% and up like he is?

Difference being, when I hit at that range I take off 1-2 slivers of his health per shot, he takes 5 or more.

get a rifle with a scope, the ratslayer comes to mind, even hard things can be brought down with a 5.56 round fired from the ratslayer, make sure your crouched and try to sneak whenever possible, you'll get extra damage with critical hits, or just change his weapon to melee, he's real nifty to have around thanks to his companion perk
