Is id's Rage more in the spirit of Fallout than Fallout 3?

Grimhound

Still Mildly Glowing
A while back there was some news about id Software, the company behind the Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein franchises branching out into new territory with a game called Rage, which so far seems like a post-apocalyptic FPS with various nonlinear elements as well as racing content. Now, I'm tossing up some links just to get some opinions on how those watching Fallout 3 feel about this.

Ehm, no.

Rage is a pure FPS focused entirely on action without any pretense of being anything else. This isn't in the spirit of Fallout at all.

...and Fallout 3 is probably going to be wealth of flotsam mired by its own incompetence.

What I'm considering the spirit of Fallout extends beyond genre. It's the atmosphere, the background, the ambiance. That sort of thing. When I watch the Rage trailer, I feel it rings more as Fallout 3 from just an overview than Fallout 3 has made capable of. You have the emphasis on faces, the cryptic tones, the makeshift construction, and then you have the Mad Max-style action.
