Is my system hindering the performance of FOT?

Ok, basically i want to know if general framiness and some delayed reactions are normal in FOT. Essentially when I command to move someone, it takes a half a second or so to actually do it, unlike FO2 when they do it in a millisecond. Also, when i scroll through the levels it gets really framy if i go too fast. This 'lag' kinda takes away some fun cuz it takes forever to do stuff.

What i want to know is if this is normal / inherent to FOT, or is it because of lackluster computer performance. I have a PIII @ 800Mhz, 128Mb RAM and my system resources are about 20Gb free. Can I upgrade the performance of FOT by buying more RAM? is there *any* way to get the game to move more quickly/smoothly, getting rid of the 'lag'? Thanks a lot

yeah, it doesnt take much from it, but it would be so much easier if it would flow smoothly...i'm pretty sure a RAM update is in order

One other thing you might want to do is look for some tweaking guides for your PC...especially if you're running Windoze.

I know that in Win 95 and 98 you almost *have* to manually manage your Virtual Memory settings, otherwise the default setting decides to allocate your whole freaking hard drive...and if you're packing 20GBs then guess what, every time I do a Read/Write for a move, encounter, whatever, I'm not only searching your *whole* Hard Drive for any data I need, I'm also searching for free space to read and write to, and I'll have to keep updating that the longer you play the game (at one sitting, that is, barring reboots, etcetera)

To test this theory, try running defrag on that 20GB...takes a little while, eh? ;-)

Good rule of thumb on the virtual memory settings is twice your system's RAM (i.e., 128 MB RAM means 256 in the Virtual Memory setting).

You might also want to look into changing your vcache settings in the SYSTEM.INI file if you're running Win 95 or 98.

My only proof that this makes a diff. is that my dinky little PII 400 with 128MB RAM seems to run much faster now after the 1.25 patch. As a caveat though, I did have my settings tweaked *before* I patched, and I decided to patch mainly due to the excessive Hard Drive access that the game was doing; I installed the patch to see if it addressed that, sure as heck, it did.

Happy Hunting
