I plan to increase my throwing skill to 200% because it helps me to clear out those raiders who like to stay prone. But at mission 6 onwards the enemies are stronger and faster . It usually takes more than 1 grenade to kill them.I begin to wonder if the skill is worth concertrating on.Can you please advise? And is there an EMP grenade in the game?

I have a grenadier in my squad and I have to say he is very useful. He only has a throwing skill of 180% but he rocks!!
Yes, you do get EMP grenades later in the game, they are called pulse grenades and I have done 900+ damage points with one of these babies. Very rare to find though, to get them, I simply fight lots of reavers in the wastlands (need outdoor skill to pick your fights). Do this enough and you will stock up on these puppies.

By the way, I don't recommend fighting reavers until your guys have good sharpshooting skills and sniper rifles.

Hope this info is useful to you. C'ya

when I finished the game I had around 600-650 regular grenades in my scouter inventory.. that kinda explains you shouldn't be running into 'out of grenade' problem, and later on when you fight robots, normal grenade does crappy damage and only have a chance of knocking them to the ground, so have fun and go nuts wtih grenades

I played right through and I found grenades to be very effective. Frag grenades are quite numerous and they can do a fair bit of damage against robots and mutants so deffinatly spend some points on getting a good thrower in your sqaud.

Essential...

In the patched version the enemies use overwatch so you can't just step around the corner and blast them, then step back out of sight, not without getting a face full of lead at least. In the higher levels, where the enemies can basically take you out in two blasts (hard difficulty level), a thrower is essential for taking on enemies hidden around corners or behind something.

To a certain extent, the grenade launcher can take over that role. It is better in the sense that it has better range, but I find it more difficult to control and there is no choice of type of grenade.

As stated above, the pulse grenade is probably the single most powerful weapon in the game.

I could not agree with these guys more. Frag grenades are really plentiful and do good vs. everything but robots. Even molotovs are useful earlier in the game. Pulse grenades make quick work of robots, plus you can toss them over fences while staying out of the direct line of fire. And they work great on prone enemies too.

I was like you, I made a grenadier (well, recruited and modified him really) and he proved most useful. Take the "Heave Ho" advantage to go with the high throwing skill and it works really well.

I wish pulse grenades were more plentiful, but if you fight enough reaver random encounters you can collect a few. Be careful though, as the reavers armed with them usually only have one or two and for some stupid reason still throw them at you in combat, so it pays to take them down first.

Grenades were pretty lame in Fallout 2. Not so in tactics.

Why?

1). More accurate. Even with low skills you generally get a grenade to go where you need to.

2) Damage. They hit hard and with the lack of criticals (does Sniper work- I heard it didnt) you have to kill enemies the hard way.

3) No line of sight. Thats right you do need to see someone to hit them. You just have to be close. Nothing better for taking out that mutie with a M60 around the corner then some Frags (or a few flash grenades if you feel gutsy).

4) Cheap and Plentiful. There are everywhere (even in the beginning) and quickly are worth nothing to see so why not?
