If we want to be exact here...

You have to wait for the DLC, *then* a patch for said DLC.

The DLC will indeed provide you with moddable dog armor, but it will make your dog six-legged and will swap its tail for its nose, while making him sing "Heeeey macarena" upon seeing a super mutant.

The patch will subsequently remove the macarena problem.

I wonder if it was an oversight regardless or if they wanted this guy to be the next Ron Perlman but failed miserably.
