This has probably been said before, but i've never heard it, so ill post it. i just found maxsons diary for the first time(ever read it? it's in FO1), and in piecing together it and all the government stuff in FO2, I was thinking, what if the nukes didnt come from china? I know there was the war, but what if nuking the country and sending everyone to the vaults for their insane tests was part of a government conspiracy?? The war with China gave them someone to put the blame on.
Maybe im crazy but i just thought of this while reading Maxsons diary and being paranoid about conspiracies(don't know if that's spelled right).
Anyway, feel free to point out the many holes in this theory that are in all likelyhood sabotaging my credibility.

In F2, Brotherhood computer tells about a theory that artifical intelligence (Skynet in Sierra A.D., of course!) could be responsible for the catastrophe. But I think it is very skinny and long-time-before-used plot. I doubt US Government, having the last oil rig on the planet, Canada annexed and first battle with China won (in Alaska, if I'm not mistaken) will NUKE THEIR OWN PEOPLE.

No, China is definitely responsible.

Maybe there was some psychotic f*** who wanted create a perfect species(it's happened before) and he managed to take hold of the American government(it could happen), get enough people to follow him, and nuke the planet(you never learn what happens elsewhere...).
Crazy people are all around you...And they're conspiring to kill us all...
