issue with environmental armour

I can't seem to equip the environmental armour found in EPA. I can try in the equipment window, the stats (ac, resistances) are updated but it immediately freezes the revolving character sprite, and when I exit to the game world my character becomes invisible. In this invisibility state no movement is possible and the character is unable to perform any action that would require animation. Removing/replacing the armour gets everything working as before.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

This sounds like the animations for the armor are missing.

If you go to your Fallout2\data\Art\critters folder do you see numerous files that begin with "haenro"?
 
The haenro* frm and fr? files do exist - in my case because I used the multi-mod install method, they are actually in fallout2\rpdata\Art\critters, with critter_patches parameter in rp.cfg pointing to fallout2\rpdata

I copied them to fallout2\data\Art\critters to check just in case before my first post, but didn't notice any change. Also downloaded the files from the frm depository here on nma and replaced them (in the default folder), - no effect either.

(I don't actually have any other mods installed... it's just I never finished the unmodded game so thought it'd be a good idea to leave myself the easy option with the multi-mod install method)

By specifying the starting model setting in the sfall ini file, I was able to start a new game with the haenro model. So it seems that the animation files are recognised by the game and also load-able.

How does equipping the environmental armour normally communicate to the engine to use the haenro frm? I suspect this is the step that's not working as it should on my install. I should think this is the same with loading any armour-specific animations, surely someone with modding experience would know?
 
I wonder what is the animation of the Environmental armor? Because is either uses the animation of some other armor (leather?), or someone all the needed animations for it, which is hell a lot of a work.

@ qbadger,

The critters.lst file (in data\Art\critters) is incorrect for the manual install, and also if you don't install the NPC armor mod with the installer.
You need to open it and remove MABEHE and MAPACI, and it should work.

The environmental armor uses art from Fallout Tactics.
