I've got a goog-lem...

Don't know if my concern is welcome here, but I hope to get some help anyway;
I can't access google.com on my connection anymore (and I know that, since I had my computer at a friends place, and the website worked as it should there). Therefore, from my *sarcasm* 1337-computer skills, I think I can localize the problem to my router or something of that nature. Then again, I'm probably all wrong.

Your clues are:

- My wireless connection

- My low connection-speed (0.5 mbit/s)

- My browser, Mozilla Firefox (I've tried some others, so I can draw the conclusion that the problem isn't here)

Please be as detailed as possible, since I *ain't* no hacker -at all.

Thanks in advanced.

Typing that leads me to nowhere (except for an eternity of waiting).

But Ah-a!
My torrenclient (uTorrent) tells me that I have a problem with incoming connections, and recommends me to open a port. And this makes sense to me, as my uploading-speed never exceeds 2 kb/s.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to open one of them ports, even less for these singular purposes.

I have a Netgear Router á model WNR834B.

http://www.portforward.com try this for port forwarding for different router ect it also has a list of common ports used for programs.

Yeah, about that one... for some reason, I can't access that one either.

Either that, or the website/my connection (which I doubt) is very, very slow.

If ISP is the same as internet provider, then their name is Tele2, and I have no problem accessing their website. However, I don't think that's where the problem ascends from; all clues points that the router is 'our' (my) villain.

have you tried conecting your pc to the modem directly bypassing the router? also try reseting them both I have this messed up old Motorola modem and when the speed drop's the problem is a mix of both router and modem.

Well, considering that that's the website of Google, that's not supposed to happen.

At least now we know it's not your DNS.

Reset your router. Forwarding ports should have exactly 0 effect on your ability to connect to websites.

No, I haven't, as my computer (and I) live out in a cabin, around 10 meters from the actual house, and therefore the wireless connection.

I've tried resetting my modem and router several times, in different orders, but I see no difference in my up/down-speed.

Aww well, I'll deal with it in the morning; being rested might be a plus dealing with these things. But as (almost) always, things tends to be easier than they appear.

...on the other hand, I haven't tried pressing that little button which you need the tip of a pencil to reach.

How about you don't double post.

Also, maybe your firewall is fudged and/or you have spyware/adware/trojans/viruses.

Turn off uTorrent, it might be draining your upload speed so you can't send requests.

Check if the fan is still running. Some fans just die after a while leaving the router over heated (especially in the summer time for some reason). Either that or some one has been tampering with your router setup. It is secured, right? (ofcourse it could be some kind of virus thingie too)

I recently bought it, so I doubt that the fan is overheated and all, and besides, Google didn't work from the very beginning.
Also, I've not established any type of routersecurity -yet.
But then again, I doubt that someone has been tampering with the router setup as our closest neighbor is like 500 meters away. And from what I know, he barely can start his computer.

That was the first thing I did.

Spywares/adware/trojans/viruses of course is a possibility, but I haven't noticed any other signs (slower computer etc.)

Also, sorry for double posting; for some odd reason, I thought they belonged together.

Try reinstalling the router that might work or phone the support line for the router,

Problem solved!

I don't know what I did, but it sure is working now; I cannot only access Google, but the whole connection seems to be working more properly.

As for the slow seeding and port-thingie, that didn't work out quite as well -but that's another concern. Right now, I'm gonna lean back and be proud (and maybe Google a little).

keep me up to date on this, I want to see if this problem returns, and if the router was any part of the problem.
