"They don't make it like they usta. In fact, they mostly don't make it at all."

Let's see weither ya'all remember that one. (*)

This post is about antiquities. In Fallout 2 so far therw were to much weapons and there has been way to much ammo. In a post nuclear world these things don't survive. Now I am not saying that every bit of tech should be banned from fallout 3, but it should be a lot harder to find, not to mention much more expensive.
I still can't seem to understand why in hell the car costed less than a Desert Eagle does! It was the only fucking vehicle in the entire game! Radio's were to be found everywhere (the damn things didn't do anything, but still) and Module chips and other computer parts were lying around in lockers in populated areas (V13, V15, M.B) and noone even appeared to take notice of them. Would your character have to be the only asshole running around the wastes rifling through people's bookcases and locker ('Oh look, I see a couple of nice ones right now!')

Personally I think in fallout 3 all the current equipment (armors, weapons, drugs and other items) should be available, just not in such big quantities. The chance of some amateur succeedding in making a new fire-arm is minimal, and over a period of roughly 2 centuries most tech and weapons would become useless, unless stored properly of course. A nuclear powerplant can survive if it has the proper maintenance (ghouls) and any technology can if it is shielded from anything that might harm it. The best places in wich you would be able to get the better stuff would be like Vaults and old military facilities (SAD, MB) or the BoS (I think they came out of a vault too, so that would make sense). Perhaps the good stuff could also be bought at traders who trade with these places. The ammo should be insufficient to use a gatling laser or any other big/energy weapon on a rat (done that often in fallout and fallout 2, still kinda amusing though)

Antiquities also involve items like elektronic lockpicks, armors, vehicles, items like the radio, pipboy lingual/medical enhancer, motion sensors or geiger counters. In order to make these things harder to find you should make the number of locations on wich can be sought bigger. Like the ruined city maps, there could still be some building more or the less intact, in wich you can look, often harboring critters (like raiders or anything else that can climb stairs).

The car should be far more expensive, as well as to buy as to use. Even though that might turn out wrong since most of the time you would have to leave the car and temporarily miss out on the benefits.

All this to make the wastelands look like wastelands. The world in Fallout 2 was way to civilized and well equiped already, my opion is that Fallout 3 would have to play before fallout 1 even if that means missing out on seeing New Arroyo, but I'll gladly make that sacrifice to give Fallout a darker more anarchistic admosphere.

I think the BoS survived the war in their main base. If you read the "Brotherhodd history" holodisk Vree's assistent give you in FO1 it says something like: "And Captain Bla bla bla was ordered to go into the base and all supplies that was needed was to be gathered from surronding villages. The families of the officers and privates were also to live in the base" or something like that. I don't think that Fo3 should be a prequel.

Like your thinkin'. I'd like to see horses, carts for basic transport. What happened to sporting guns and bows/crossbows? I understand Smackrazor is attempting a mod to tone it down, should be interesting. Also whatever happened to maintenance? All this stuff is good for life? Nothing jams or seizes. More emphasis on unarmed/melee weapons.

I think people should chill out a bit over the realism issue. Repeat after me children: "It's only a game" Repeat until lesson is learnt.
