Josh Sawyer (F:NV Game Director) at Obsidian Extra Lives

Diggfinger!

First time out of the vault

Obsidian Extra Lives with Studio Design Director Josh Sawyer

Gaming session and interview with Chris Stanick (Obsidian Community Manager)
Overall, not an amazing interview (Stanick admits prep was limited, unaware of other Sawyer interviews) but some cool tidbits include:

- Fallout New Vegas' 15th year anniversary (19th October) coincides with Sawyer's 50th birthday a day later (and he feels more impacted by the latter)
- 29min: DLC's were meant to be distinct from each other and short, meaning people can finish them quickly and find one that suits them
- 30min: million dollar question (from chat): "anything you haven't told us about F:NV?" .... not really lol, "fans know more lore than me".
-> 1h14min / Havok Physics Bug / but Josh shares a hilarious hurdle they had to overcome: the Havok physics engine was several versions outdated since Fallout 3, and Sony denied to ship New Vegas for compliance reasons. Josh's team was understaffed on programmers and they didn't have the time and knowledge to update Havok, before calling in Havok and Bethesda back-up. Before solving it, a bug happened were hundreds of items got sucked to the edges of the map where they lingered in frightening and janky limbo.
- 31min: on preferred playstyles. Roleplaying-wise Sawyer prefers being a 'generally good person', blowing away only truly aggravating
- 35 min: making a Fallout racing game ??? KOTOR related question
- 52 min: Sawyer's favorite NV mod turns all Cazador sound effects into Lou Vegas Mambo No 5... (???? this one?)
- 1h02min: Alien RPG was cancelled early 2009. The team immediately went on to F:NV which shipped October 19th, 2010
- 1h04min: short hair saga explained

Sawyer gets face painted throughout and the stream ends with Josh being...pie'd in the face (culprit: unknown)
