Just an idea

First time out of the vault
Hello!

Im new to this forum, and I jus recently re-discovered classic Fallout 1&2.

I love playing old style isometric computer RPG:s, they just look better than new photorealistic-full 3D-games and I know that im not alone with my opinion :)

So, my question is: would it be completely impossible to re-greate Fallout 3 or New Vegas as a 2D imetric game?

I realise that this Fallout 3 or New Vegas-mod would be enormous and very difficult project, but I also know that people have done pretty large mods already.

This is just a little (and propably stupid) idea that I had. I don´t know how to make Fallout mods or how they work - I just love these games.

And sorry for my bad english :D

Is it possible ? Sure. Is it porbable? No.

Making a whole game is exceptionally time consuming when you're doing it in spare time. THere's also the problem of it would be virtually the same game but in 2d and not 3d - so people would already know the story.

Nah, wouldn't be fully the same game. You have to reimagine a lot stuff like encounters, how to design the small worldmap, the combat system is totally different, etc. etc.

I personally would never do such a thing. It's a waste of time in my opinion. Either create something new or stick to the original. :>

Hah! would be funny though... like a kick to the teeth to the next gen stuff :P

It actually depends on the engine.

If you use the Fallout 2 engine for it, it would be simply a lot of work for prolly not much gain.

If you use a different engine for the purpose, you might get a cease and desist letter sooner or later.

Even if someone would want to do it, and have time/resources to do it, I doubt that Beth would allow it, So many things - other than those already mentioned - would have to be changed. Names of places, people, factions etc.
Of course, Beth would never bother to re-create a game in that way, when this formula they use is winning one. Sad, but true.
