The shot's frame. I don't mean a physical, wooden frame on the outside of the pic.
The angles. Awkward. They don't really focus on anything, just general shots with amputated objects "sticking out" from all sides.

Whatever it is, there's a fuckload of grain in those pictures, and it just looks bad, same as the overburnt (the white part) spot in the center of the second image.

And no, "purpose" is not a valid excuse for a sloppy technical side, don't give me that crap.

It is kind of standard frame for an electrical laboratory photos.

My guess is that the first picture is of a macro chip(the box in the middle), which will in time turn into micro chip, so it kind of suits the Fallout world.
