Judging on previews, King Arthur gives me the feeling of an action movie rather than a retelling of the Arthurian legend.

Seriously... Guenivere?

Sure she might look good but a lady of Camelot being a bow-swinging leather-wearing Celt-looking warrioress?

Every time I see the beginning of that trailer I think "Ooh, Romans."

Meh, I don't know. I think it'll be a cool flick, action wise, but not a good story movie. Kinda like Troy, I guess. Haven't seen Excalibur, though, any good?

PS: Go watch the Merlin miniseries.

It's based on the "real" story, as opposed to the whole Camelot/TH White kind of deal.

Looks pretty shitty to me. Plus they bailed out on the R and went for a PG-13, which toned it down considerably. Pussies.

Did anyone else like First Knight with Sean Connery?

Yeah, I did. Interesting and nice flick, but no good as an Arthur flick. And it seemed to me that it skipped over some bits.

Excalibur. The soundtrack is good, the combat scene in the begin of the movie is good too. It's close to the original story and in general the knights armor and setting are nice.

I voted for Excalibur but, in truth, Monty Python did it best.

Hmmm. Indeed. What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow :?:

Just to battle the hype for this movie, there is no "real" story besides a few vague scraps saying that England did have a king named Arthur in the dark ages. Everything relating to excalibur, camelot, knights of the round table, etc., comes from Thomas Mallory's "Le Morte D'Arthur", written in the 15th century and 900 years after Arthur supposedly lived.

I've heard theories that Arthur is based on a Welsh king, but we "stole" him from them. At any rate, even if there was an Arthur, most of the stories are just lies and exaggeration. Just like with St. George and the Dragon, St. Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland and other historic figures about whom next to nothing is known.

Yer, Merlin is pretty good - as is Mists of Avalon based on the book Lady of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

ah. camelot! A yankee at the court of king Arthur was a good book, anyone read it?
As for the movie: definitely Excalibur, much more depth, better setting and the fact that a knight in armour has the mobility of an anvil adds to the realism.

Cause everyone knows Arthur was Iron (ie semi Persian, Sarmatian). It's total shit, I hope it does to Kiera Knightly's carrer what will happen to Berry with Catwoman.
