Ladies and Gentlemen of Troika:
We are appalled by the idea of, as I’m sure you are more than aware and consequently and similarly disgusted, this so-called “Fallout” tactical simulator. Bringing with it, and I quote (http://betasite.interplay.com), "All the best things about Fallout rolled into a turn-based strategy!” and in the process giving you the chance to “Tear it up with your squad in the most beloved of game worlds, the Fallout Universe."
Further more there is a rumor floating around the Fallout message boards that Fallout 3 will in fact be an online pay-service game. This is a concern of ours, and the main reason for our petition. <Roshambo, I think a good “online sequels are series destroyers” type rant would be in good taste right about here, as you know I have very limited knowledge in this area. And if you could end it with something along the lines of “Fallout as we now know it, is dead” I’d be much obliged. >
Interplay and what remains of the skeleton team of Black Isle have made it quite apparent that they don’t care about the direction that the Fallout series takes; apart from the route of greatest monetary return. We the fans have waited three years for a sequel, which will in all likelihood not be a follow up at all but one more mind numbing experience of a FPS online drone destined to kill off another great series. It hurts us and fills us with an overwhelming feeling of sadness to see the series die like this. We do not take your creation (yes “your creation,” since your team are the true geniuses behind it) lightly; it is THE greatest RPG ever released and one of the last vestiges of true computer role-playing gameplay at its zenith.
Understand that we are not idealists; we are in fact quite the opposite. EA pulled the same shit out from under Fargo’s feet with Wasteland and he was able to move ahead, pulling together a great team to create Fallout in the process.
Now we do not want to sound pushy, annoying or trite (we understand that your team must have been quite disillusioned with the whole Fallout series after the break off with Interplay) but the reigning school of thought at most Fallout fan sites namely and specifically No Mutants Allowed is that a three year period away from the genre would be a fairly remedial hiatus for the disenchantment of any series, especially of a great series like your guys’ baby.
All true Fallout fans are sending this petition to you. Our request of the progenitors of Fallout is that at least one last true, albeit unofficial, sequel to the Fallout series be made.
