I'm not very good at quotes or vocabulary for that matter, so I'm asking you all this. How would you express an event that begins with something small, which leads to something major happening? Think butterfly effect. I can almost think of the proper word, but I've forgotten.

Would be cool to have a Latin word for it.

Escalation maybe? I don't know a Latin equivalent unfortunately.

And I really gotta ask what you need all these completely random things you've been asking for? Making a movie? Flash thingie? Indie game? All of the above?

Ugh. I'm making an animation in Maya for a Uni course I'm taking. I don't have time to become acquainted with other forums and such, so I'm asking here.

It's my first time animating, I've only done some NURBS modeling in Alias Studiotools before, and I'm in waaaay over my head with this one. It's taking a lot of time, and I'm extremely ambitious. I've completely crushed the minimum requirements of this course. It's due on the 10th, and I'm barely done with the textures and lighting, which because of countless bugs in Maya (still using NURBS, not good at polygons), are slowing me down to a standstill, making me create backups and such. I'm going to start animating tomorrow.

Right now I need a title for the animation. It begins with a loose screw flying out of a ship, and creating a wormhole sucking everything in.

When you say Latin, you mean latin based languages such as portuguese, italian, etc. or do you mean Latin, the language used in the Roman Empire?

Some possible expressions (and portuguese equivalent):

- Snowball (Bola de neve)
- Chain Reaction (Reação em cadeia)
- Growth/grow/growing (crescimento/crescer/crescendo)
- Butterfly effect (efeito borboleta)

I don't know latin, but I suggest taking a look at Lexicanum, the wiki for the Warhammer 40.000 universe, in particular the stuff about the Imperium of Man, which is has tons of latin expressions such as Administratorum, Adeptus Mechanicus, Ordo Malleus, etc etc.

Growth is probably the best bet since it's probably the only one of those that were around back then.

I like Incrementum. It has a good sound to it, though I'm not sure it's entirely what you're looking for.
But it's not like you're doing it for Latin class, so wtf right?

Latin as in the language they spoke in Rome the TV series occasionally.
Yeah, except they pretty much only did it with the "Domina, Dominus" thing and "Dominus" is a grammatical error. :P

*edit*
Seems incementum is actually exactly what you're looking for.

The word your looking for is "Crescendo".

A freshman in music theory could tell you that.

Aye, but it sounds a little too music-y. As for now, I'm going for "Escalation". Other suggestions are welcome.

To be fair, crescendo is a widely used word for this purpose. My history teacher likes to tell us there was a "Revolutionary Crescendo" throughout 1905 in Russia.

But also a quick leaf through my Pocket Oxford Latin Dictionary (my bible for A level), the only words for "growth" are "incrementum" and "auctus".

I dare say HBO/BBC thought the number of people who would start screaming "No! It's domine! Vocative! Vocative!" at the TV was negligible...
