As they are now, there is really no use in resting to get healed, or first aid skill. You can just take afew stimpaks and youre at full health. In real life, stimpacks are only pain killers. Stimpacks should heal some health, but there should be much much less of them around, and they should be expensive, so the other methods of healing at least get a fair chance.
 
Well, I agree that the stimpacks are a little misused, however you must remember that their main use is in the midst of combat. First Aid and Doctor can't be used while someone has a gun pointed at your head. Perhaps if the skill's healing rate was better than that done with stimpacks, it would help. You have to admit, though, that having all those stimpacks around sure is handy when someone hits you in the head with a rocket.

Oh no! my head got blown apart by a anti-tank missile taking my body with it! Good thing i've got a stimpack to inject into the crater!
 
i think the fallout team tried to make stimpacks more expensive in fallout 2 then they were in fallout 1 but that didnt really do much. by the time i got to new reno i had about 50 stimpacks in my inv.
