Life After People

interesting how quickly stuff degrades. Seems like fallout's ruined cityscapes might not be entirely accurate.... Except the parts people would maintain.

Fallout is pretty accurate, actually. It's all in a climate-screwed, heavily arid and irradiated post-apocalyptic California. Plantlife would be sparse, only the more prolific or intelligent animals would survive. Also, arid environments are salvation for metal infrastructures, hence why all the boneyards for retired vehicles and aircraft are in the deserts.

Interesting. However it looks like they made it to much of an CGI showcase without much science into it. However, this kind of docu's have my interest so I will definitely see it.

I Wonder though if this documentary had been based upon Weisman's book: 'The World Without us''. http://www.powells.com/biblio/62-9780312347291-0 Or did Weisman based his book on this docu?

It seems like the zeitgeist has come back around to concerns about "the end" or something. Particularly an end with a human cause. Maybe it's an outgrowth of concern about global warming.

Then again, since we're thinking about certain kinds of "the end" all the time, it's hard to judge.

Maybe the Cold War has been over long enough that these thoughts have cycled back to the surface or something.

Well, according to a CNN poll, 50 million Americans believe the world will end in the next few generations.. So the reason for all this attention for apocalyptic endings is not that weird.

The standard response from religious folks when times are bad. They always fail to see the big picture that live is not just about there own generation and that the 'shit' comes in waves throughout history. Some decades it will suck, some decades it won't.
And like you said, global warming is regarded as a 'sign' to. Or in other words; accept the end so they and there entire goddamn generation of planet destroying disillusioned post hippie babyboomers don't have to stop consuming resources because these disasters come from god. :P

They expect a 2000 year old hippie driving a golden Hummer to pick them all up and drive into the clouds while everyone else writhes in flames.

If you guys watched this program you'd realize it has nothing to do with the end of the world and why humanity disappears. It's all about how nature reclaims cities. Nothing else. No Cold War paranoia, nuclear war, plagues, or any of that. Some of the stuff they came up with is actually very cool. I especially liked the skyscrapers turning into huge ecosystems resembling vertical forests.

This was clearly inspired by the book World Without Us, which NMA plugged about a year ago.

Imagine our cities become jungles with animals living there :(

I wanna be the last man alive! And on a eternal quest to find ze girl

Well... Our City's ARE allready (concrete) jungles, and we are the animals in it. Just a matter of perspective.

Would their be Zombies?
The dinosaurs were extinct because they lacked a space program.
or what about the antediluvian world?
