Living life in the scene outside the Vault Dweller

First time out of the vault
I think that it would be nice if you could get away from the whole Vault Dweller/Chosen thing and get a better understanding of the post apocalyptic world. It would be nice if maybe it took place just as the vaults began to open and you could go through the reconstruction period and how the world developed after the bomb. Perhaps you could be an Enclave soldier, creating the first roots into the mainland. Living life in the eyes of mutants, ghouls, the brotherhood, any of those would be possible and would be a great change of pace from the 2 past Fallout games. Also, it could span over a much greater period, and your actions would have a direct influence on the developement of technology and civilization. For example, if you killed Gizmo in Junktown and left for a year, it would still be the same old junktown, gossip of Gizmo still in the air. But what if the town changed over the course of your adventures? It would be really great to see how Killiian Darkwater enforced his law in Junktown. Such changes would all be worthy of the Fallout universe, unlike Fallout POS. As you would probably expect, there would also be improved weapons, perhaps an improved graphics system (Tactics, maybe) though the original would be just fine and dandy, and all that other fun stuff. Though this all would be a monumental task, it would be well worth it for Fallout Fans and casual gamers alike.

Wow, that's totally original! For the past 5 years it's the first time somebody suggested it!

S_P, thanks for this clarification, as I'm sure some readers may not get it despite the rolling eyes smiley attached it the message.

Yes, such a broad and changing storyline in the Fallout universe would definitely be worth it and loved by us, the gamers, all around. Unfortunately this isn't how Interplay has been working as of late, so you probably can just put your hopes on the back-burner sadly.

Keep those ideas churning though!

A enclave soldier is a to defined and limited role.
When you ere just limited to play “someone from a vault” ore “someone from a tribal village” you can create your own unique character whit his own unique background and personality. Wile all enclave soldiers are more ore less the same.

To be honest, any storyline that involves 'msterious transmissions from the Glow' is good enough for me.

I like the idea of getting away from the 'Chosen' idea and a vault man character. There are so many other potential starting points - it would be nice if Fallout 3 could make the decision about your character's origins yours to make and make it effect the game - your starting location could change and people may react to you differently.

You could be the son of a local baron who wants to make it out on his own, a caravan guard who longs for some solitude etc

The post-apocalyptic senario used in Fallout opens so many possiblities it would be a shame to limit the player by saying you are a lowly tribal who must pull himself up and save the world.

Morrowind (although it did have a chosen one element, handled the open ended style really well. If Fallout 3 game could be made as open as Morrowind, it would be fantastic - preferrably including factions which actually mean something so that the character's choices have an impact instead of just giving you a few missions)

Knowing the unoriginal marketing dept/suits at Interplay (who not only name the games, but also try their hand at telling the developers what to do despite the developers being uh...the developers), it will be:

Fallout 3: Brotherhood of Steel

That's one way of making the Doctor skill more important. I can forsee the text box now...

"You feel an itching burning sensation down in your groin area. Take 4 hit points damage."

"You smack Desert Raider in the face with a critical blow of your breasts. He collapses like a rag."
"Breast caused 999 Damage"

Whee. Fun.

I can already see the perks and traits.
