Loading FO2 onto a Flash disk

Hotel California

Mildly Dipped
I've got a 1GB flash disk. I was loading FO2 onto my new machine the other day and saw the option come up to installing onto the flash drive. When I asked around about it i was told it couldn't be done (due to dlls, registry and things in the windows directory). Could someone with more computer experience than me tell me if it is possible to install FO2 onto such a flashdisk (humongus install for no CD?) and just plug in and play?

I dont see any reason why this wouldnt work... This is worth a try

Just install f2 on your harddrive (you don't have to if its already installed), then copy all the f2 folder to the flash drive (including the hidden files if there are any). Then once its all on the flash drive, go into the fallout 2 folder inside the flash drive and edit the fallout2.cfg file and put in the paths for the master, critter dat files and the sound path folder then run the fallout2.exe on the flash drive

It should work... i think

Yeah pretty much just do a manual install to the flash drive, while changing all the directory paths.

There's a possibility that it wouldn't work with some games that require registry keys, but this isn't the case for Fallout 1 or 2.

So you can go right ahead and install to the flash drive (manually or otherwise).
