Locked out of NCR (Fallout 2)

Every time I try to enter the NCR in Fallout 2, the game crashes. I have the latest version of Killap's patch installed. Is this a common problem? Is there any way to fix it?

Edit: This needs to be in the Fallout General Modding forum. Sorry.
Edit 2: Okay, I figured it out. I had that PATCH000.DAT file in my directory. I removed it, and I can enter the NCR now. However, could this have corrupted anything else? Should I start a new game?

I can't think of a way that it could affect your game. Each map is saved in a separate file, so if the game crashed upon trying to enter a specific map, nothing would have been saved relating to that map.

Edit 2: Okay, I figured it out. I had that PATCH000.DAT file in my directory. I removed it, and I can enter the NCR now.

Did you do a manual install of my unofficial patch? I'm fairly certain the installer version should remove that file.
