Looking for a good naval combat sim.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you're into submarine games, I'd recommend Silent Hunter 2.

Looking into sub and surface units.

I had heard of one called Dangerous Waters, but not too sure about it.

Das Boot.
It's ancient, but pretty good. Look for it on abandonware sites...

Whatever you do, stay away from Tom Clancy SSN. I bought about a year ago, in Netto, for about 3 euros, played it once and started crying.

While you're at it... stay away from the book too. Ick, just plain sucked. To stay relevant... isn't there some sorta Harpoon series or something thats supposed to be pretty good?

If you thought that was bad, don't even think about reading the book. One of the worst things I've ever had the misfortune of opening the covers of.

There is Jane's Fleet Command, though I have no personal experience with that one.

I'd recommend Sub Command, its fun and sometimes I just boot it up to read the database. I'd also recommend Slient Hunter 2 and Destroyer Command (nothing beats hiding from allied destroyers and attacking a convoy in a uboat, then dodging the depth charges and repairing the ship).

Harpoon is supposed to be very good, but Harpoon 4's development is currently frozen(which sucks since you could apparenty mess around with ships from 14 or so nations).

Hah kotario... looks like we've had the same discomfort with that book :).

You mean SSN itself right? The Hunt for Red October, and for that matter Red Storm Rising were both excellent novels. His recent ones are teh suck, true, but isn't that the case with everyone's novels?

You mean Larry Bond? I've read some of his books too, like Cauldron and Vortex. iirc he collaborated with Clancy on Red Storm Rising.

Good stuff all around.
