Looking for a new laptop...

Ancient Oldie

Still Mildly Glowing
Need a little bit of help here. I want to buy a brand new laptop for school, somewhere in the $1000 dollar range, although I wouldn't mind going a bit over if the extra's included with it are worth it. I'm mainly going to use it for my work and projects instead of gaming, or so I hope. :)

This is going to be my first laptop, so I'm not that knowledgable in what I should be on the look out for when it comes to laptops, and unlike my previous PC's, I don't think it's feasible to actually build one.

Any suggestions or good websites are more than welcome.

I bought a Toshiba satellite laptop for the same reason. It was just over a thousand dollars at best buy. Has more than enough power for me.

Computer or Dancer?

if you want compatability and portability of files and work stuff like that, go for a PC build Laptop, I couldn't care less what you choose, anything above 1.5gb processing power will probably suffice.

If however you don't see yourself transferring date to and from your main PC and just need it as a stand-alone system, I'd go for an Apple Notebook, just as long as you don't get OS X, I've heard it sucks badly...

Thank you all for the suggestions. I was looking into purchasing a Dell laptop before the thread, so what I really wanted to know was if there was a better alternative to a Dell. But, I think the general consensus here is that Dell is the way to go, so I'm off to that website again.

Anyways, thanks again for all the help.

I have a Dell, never had any problems with it.
So yes, I would say Dell is the way to go.

1. Dell is a great company for laptops

2. My work has about 4 Toshiba laptops, and their hard drives keep failing every so many months. Not a good thing. It's funny, because they have IBM hard drives... which fail. But my network integrator has his own toshiba at home, which has a Toshiba hard drive and hasn't failed once.

3. Alienware isn't as powerful as they should be... laptops are overly pricey as well.
