looking for cockroach frm

taag

Still Mildly Glowing
does anybody have a big cockroach FRM from Fallout Tactics that doesn't "jump" when moving forward? I tried the one available in Downloads, but it seems to have the mentioned glitch.

I doubt you'll find a good one... It's impossible to make good moving sprite which has 8 directions for engine where you have only 6...

i know... sometimes i think it would be better for the mod community to build their own new engine and models, something like Van Buren

That would require a lot of well skilled artist and programmers to create something that looks and works very good. Not going to happen.

since i'm a programmer i know what it would require. but wouldn't you agree that it would revive the fallout mod scene? just for starters, generating new graphic would be easier in terms of sprite vs. 3D model

There is a new engine that has been in the works for the last 3 years now. It's all open source but it is still sprite based.

It's called FIFE and they are always looking for programmers, it's been around long enough that you know it's not just another pipe dream so any work you do wont be wasted.

I converted the cockroaches from FOT a few years ago and Continuum is correct they don't walk correctly, they are passable but not perfect :(

From memory the small roaches seem to look okay though.

Sure, but even three TC conversion for current engine are still far to be completed. Making new engine is simply unrealistic task for me... Besides FIFE is under development, so there's no point to start another one.

Modding characters in 3d engine is much more easier work than doing the same thing in 2d engine. You don't need to care about animations, since they're already there. All you need is low-poly making skills. But someone must make the animations... And this require animating skills to get nice results. Even professional animators from Beth$oft are not able to create a decent ones :ugly:

I'm doing one on my own, so you could make that four.

Of course, what about the engine used in Age of Decadence? That one seems promising *and* cheap.

You could say the same for programming but that doesn't stop software from being made. Some are good at it, some are bad.

Myself and Kanhef documented all of FO's files on the wiki for Timeslip's engine (now dead), I hope you can use them:

this one should be of use to (translated by Kanhef):

I hate to grave dig, but I'm looking for the larger cockroach FRM's, any ideas where they are - I looked amongst the files (Tactics FRM's for Fallout 2) but couldn't find them. I already have the small ones.

Maybe I misunderstood which version you need, but did you look in MIB88's Megamod material? A big roach should be in there.

Thanks Endocore, I'll have a look for it in the Megamod.
