Lord of the Rings- reviews

Ok, who saw it and what did you think?

I heard it was the best of the bunch. But honestly I wasn't impressed with the first one, and I thought the second one was a bit long and kind of boring (thought Gollum and the Ents attack on the castle was cool). What about the new one?

I was watching The Last Samurai (good, btw) and around midnight all these nerdlings came running through the hall outside the theater, doing nerd things. I saw a few of them had a TV and all the fixings campled outside by the theater door prior to the opening.

I have no idea how the movie is, but honestly don't people have better things to do with themselves? It was 10 degrees out last night! Go surf for porn or something.

I liked the first one quite a bit - better than the second, actually. Like you, I found the second one somewhat long and boring around the end (it's one of those movies where you think "this could have ended half an hour ago").
As for this one, so far I've heard it was quite good.

My friend bought advanced tickets for everyone - and I should be in the movie right now. But my sleep last night was awful, so I gave my ticket to someone else.
Didn't feel like waiting in a 2 hour lineup (to get good seats) for a three hour and thirty minute movie. Including the previews and commercials, it would be close to four hours. I'll see it when I'm ready to put up with sitting still for that long. For such a long movie, it better be good.

I should be hearing a ton about it in about 2.5 hours time. My entire social group has gone.

I saw it last night at midnight and it was great. I think it's the best one out of the three. However, at the end it did sort of drag, but what can you expect of a movie that is trying to stay as true to the book as possible and that has so many important characters.

But, if you guys thought that the second one was long and rather boring, I wouldn't recommend that you see it. For every one else who liked the first two, then this one won't let you down.

I saw the last one on the 17th of December at 0:01 o'clock, and I say it is cool, nicely done, and a great ending of the trilogy. I am very bad at desciping things so I can't describe how the movie was, but I can say, that I'm still in shock, and almost speechless.

Great flick.

You've read the book? Did the movie stay as faithful as previous chapters? And also, is there and intermission? 3.5 hours is is an awfully long time to sit.

Edit: fixed confusion in addressing Strit

If the questions where for me:
No I have not read the book, but I think it was close to the book. When I saw the film, there was no intermission/break. But then again, I was at a marathon, with all 3 films, so there wouldn't be breaks in the movies, just between them.

If not:
Then I'm sorry for posting.

Yeah, I meant you, sorry for the confusion. Notice my first post in this thread, were you one of those characters? :sorry: :D

If you didn't read the books, I assume your geekling friends did and said they were accurate, yes?

If you notice my location, I'm from Denmark, so it was not me. I saw the movie in denmark with my girl, and she reads the books (all the time), and she say's it is close to the book.

Well, obviously you weren't in line in State College...oh never mind.

Read the books long ago. Saw the movie last night.

A-fucking-mazing.

The best of the series, but not for weak bladders - it has a 3 hour and 40 minute run time.

It stayed faithful to the book, as with the other two films. There were a few parts taken out here and there, but (well, with the exception of one notable part missing) it didn't really matter much.

I'm going to go see it again Saturday. I'm still stunned.

Wow. That good.

Yeah I can understand some fiddling with the plot, although the hard core Tolkien fan's go ape shit. I mean, those are some long damn books and some of it's pretty damn boring.

Maybe I can convince my wife to see it.

Heh, the Silmarillion was slow reading compared to the Lord of the Rings. So you can imagine how that was.

As I understand it, they've left out the Scarring of the Shire, and left Saruman's fate unanswered.

Diehard fans are also depressed that they didn't spend enough time with Shelob the She-Spider. I'm sure a lot will be covered in the Extended Edition however, which I've heard will be about 4 hours long.

I have IBS so I wouldn't make it through this movie without craping my pants three times.....

Mohrg

I've read that Saruman's death is going to be included in one of the upcoming DVD's. It was originally going to be the opening scene but Jackson decided that it threw off the narrative and edited it out.

Yeah, Gaydalf grew black fangs and slashed Denethor's throat then pissed on the corpse.

Heh, great to see another one who went to watch that marathon :D

Best of the three, easily.

I could nitpick and complain about scenes that were missing / altered / done wrong but that doesn't change the fact it was a very good movie.

Good thing I have a strong bladder :)
