Is the Mad Max universe related to the Fallout universe? I know they're both post-war, but I mean is there more? Does Mad Max have the "Vaults"? How about Thunder Dome in Fallout? Am I just trying to find connections where there are none?

Looking at some of the Mad Max websites' info, the actual war where the nukes fly doesn't happen until between parts 2 and 3. I was surprised myself, so there probably isn't any correlation.

No relationship whatsoever. Mad Max references in Fallout were simply easter eggs, just like references to Wasteland were easter eggs too.

zero-x's bitter words after his encounter with roshambo:

"I agree with you but there comes a fuckin point i dont know who roquirbo thinks he is but I at least you didnt really criticize me and i appreciate that i hate people who fuck with my ideas when i didnt say shit to em and yes he is the kind of guy i would take a scalpel tear his head open the take an hammer use the end to samsh through the medulla and use the nail pull as a pry to pull back the top of the skull revealing a brain (small but brain nontheless)and take desert eagle magnum and blow it through his fucking spine as he still breath and then rip out his heart and show him how black it is before he dies but as you said thats illegal well cya"

That doesn't make any sense. Why would gas be such a precious commodity then?

As I remember it, Mad Max 1 simply set the scene of society breaking down and led on to Mad Max 2.
So the actual war took place shortly after MM1.

"I am become death. The destroyer of worlds."

i think the creaters of fallout had a lot of things in mind when they were coming up with ideas. if you say mad max had nothing to do with it, i dissagree bigtime. The biggest similarity is the way your (male) character looks with the leather jacket on. Look at that guy, and then watch the road warrior. your guy fits max to the T (if you want more proof, look at dogmeat and then look at max's dog). there are more similarities that are smaller between you in fallout and max... you fight raiders, max fight raiders; you drive a badass car, max drives a baddass car and so on. there are other things that i think the designers thought about too. if youve ever read the book 'the postman '(the movie's awfull but the book is pretty sweet). you see a lot of fallout in there. theres hundreds of other places you see little similaraties.

By MM having nothing to do with Fallout I was answering MSG's question, saying that they belong to different universes - Fallout creators could get sued if they ever implied that Fallout universe and MM world are one and the same. Every visual similarity is an Easter Egg.

The leather jacket is Easter Egg, obviously. Dogmeat is Easter Egg. All other stuff - Postman's "supermutants" and sentient computer (it wasn't really "sentient", but you know the story), Mad Max' raiders etc. - these are all the elements of popular science fiction. Raiders go back as far as official government brochure on the aftermath of the nuclear war, and supermutants are the stuff of cyberpunk and even comics.

ApTyp is correct. While the leather jacket armor sprite has more than a little similarity to Mad Max, they're definitely two different universes.

Hell, look at the cars in them. The Mad Max cars follow a 1970s motiff, and is based on the oil crisis at that time. Fallout cars have a 1950s motiff because that's when the nuclear craze was in full swing.

hey im not saying that their the same universe im just saying that its very obvious that some of MM and/or the postman kind of rubbed off on the creators. They probably making the game and one day they say "hey, lets make our dude look like mad max!"

RE: Mad Max/Fallout/and a million other things

Mad Max, Fallout and the Postman aren't the only films, games or books with a post apocalyptic theme. That post nuclear war, break down of society theme appears all over the place. What about "Knights" that movie with Lance Henrickson. "Powerslide", racing Mad Max style cars in a destroyed world. "KKND" warfare in a post apocalyptic world. Every Sci-fi author has written a book with a similar style. Niven's "Fallen Angels" (break down of society due to an ice age), Asimov's "Foundation and Empire series" (collapse of a huge intergalactic empire into barbarism) and plenty more.

Uuuh...I forgot what my point was.

Doesn't matter.

I agree, I feel also that the Fallout series owes more than a little to the Mad Max series. I am sure that Mad Max does not contain any vaults as such, but the settlements in the classic film series are pretty similar to the ones in Fallout, particularly Junktown and The Brotherhood of Steel. The Khan Raiders could also be a borrowed idea off MM, any ideas anyone? There are quite a few similarities between the two, but it's been ages since I saw the films!!!
