TAIPEI (Reuters) - He's everything Whitney Houston is not -- Taiwanese, male, chubby and unknown -- but Lin Yu-chun is being likened to the pop diva after wowing a talent show with his rendition of one of her most popular songs.

Lin, a competitor on popular singing show "Super Star Avenue", floored the judges this week with his pitch-perfect rendition of Houston's "I Will Always Love You", taken from her film "The Bodyguard" that also starred Kevin Costner.

The 24-year-old, who wears a bow tie and sports a bowl haircut, is also being touted by many bloggers as this year's Susan Boyle, the best-selling artist who unexpectedly became a musical superstar after her show-stopping performance on the "Britain's Got Talent" TV program.

"Close your eyes and tell me -- have you forgotten you're listening to a reality show and started to think you're hearing "The Bodyguard"," wrote CNN's news blog editor Mallory Simon about Lin's performance.

I am not sure if he would ever become another internet sensation like Boyle did, but the boy does have chops. Any guy that has the guts to go up on live television to sing in that get up and pick Whitney Houston of all people, deserves my applause.

2 things that surprised me more is that - 1. he is almost pitch perfect, 2. he did it in English, which is very difficult for some Chinese to even speak without problems.

It would be nice to see him win.

I keep hearing mixed news reports. Some say he won, some say there's others who are considered favorites over him.

I loved this performance, and watching the others of his I could find (Amazing Grace, Saving My Love For You), the guy's amazing.
