Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
(Inspired by seeing the "Manhunt" thread title in Fan Art section)

Manhunt sucked. I was so looking forward to the "Manhunt is an audacious game that backs up its extremely violent subject matter with solid stealth action gameplay." part by GameSpot and an acquaintance's assurance that it's really scary, that you can use almost any item as a weapon, etc.

Maybe I was expecting too much, but I kinda imagined (at best, not at least) Metal Gear Solid-style stealth combined with violence more, well, violent than the interrogation scenes from Punisher and an interactive world where you look for potential weapons in trashcans or use the trashcans themselves.

What I got - a weak action game with violence barely above that of GTA3 (which equals none, if the game advertises itself as violent - VtMB had more violence that this), stealth at the level of "just walk from behind not be seen" and item pickups floating in colored circles, identical to those in GTA3. And you can have at maximum 3 different weapons at a time, and only one in each category of silent-but-single-use, more-powerful-but-loud and very-powerful-but-loud-and-slow. The "different levels of violence when killing someone" is a mockery.

The only thing going for the game was the never realized gameplay idea, and the storyline + atmosphere, which was great all the way until I had played for about 5 minutes. After that the horrible, plain and boring gameplay destoryed any scaryness & atmosphere there was.

Good thing I only borrowed the game. Would have been really pissed if I had to buy it. I'm pretty sure in our country it's unheard of to return a game that you've actually unwrapped and used, just because you didn't like it, though I've never really returned any games so I wouldn't know. I think it would be compared to returning a hamburger after you've tried it just because you didn't like the taste (not because it was spoiled or something).

Whew, I've vented. Anyone else have anything to say on the issue?

P.S. With "more violence" I mean "more graphic", not "more victims".

The fuck you talking about?

Maybe you should have played the game some more before making such comments.

Sure, it might not have been the best game I have ever played but it was one of few that stuck out. The story was great, the atmosophere was great, and it was pretty fucking scary and unnerving at points.

Also you could kill people with shards of broken glass and plastic bags... What more could you possibly want? :freak:

I did. For about an hour or two.

Silent Hill was scary and unnerving at points. The haunted mansion in VTMB was scary and unnerving at points. Manhunt was dull and boring. Gameplay-wise I felt like playing GTA3 all the time. I agree about the story and atmosphere though. Those I liked very much from the very beginning.
