Map Editor Major problems...

Scum Raider

First time out of the vault
The new map editor is ok but i got some problems with it...I know its like mega beta but i thought i should report major bugs so they can be fixed.
When i try to utilize the Critter/Item edit function it never saves and says "cant modify prototypes from here" and it wont save :?
so that makes the critter/item edit option useless.
I also i cant delete roofs... so editing maps is pointless to :(
Either im doing something wrong or everyone else has the same bug.

Enabling PRO editing's a bit cumbersome...

1) Go into mapper2.cfg, and change librarian=0 to 1.

2) Create on the same drive as Fallout2 and the mapper /Fallout2/dev/proto, in it create the directories of what you want to edit (in your case, critters).

Restart the mapper and edit!

To remove roof tiles (and floor tiles for that matter), use the first (empty) tile in the list. Duh.

Well it worked for me just make sure you put the directory in as:

C:/Fallout2/dev/proto

(C: can be changed depending on what drive fallout's installed on.)

I tried all that, too. I haven't been able to save my item edits. Do I need to use a DAT explorer to export the PRO files? What about the path in the mapper2.cfg, should it point to "data\proto" or "dev\proto"? I made librarian=1. Any other suggestions?

I hope I don't sound like a total dumb-ass :(

Edit: I have been playing around with the editor and other utilities. I can place items all over the map and see them in the game. Still, any item I try to edit won't show up! I tried making DATs and all sorts of shit. I have been trying to change the text on the basic spear as a test for the past few hours. It still won't work!

You seem to think that it belongs in Fallout2/dev/proto or something...

It's in C:/Fallout2/dev/proto (Change the drive accordingly).

It's important that it's in the ROOT of your drive or it won't work. Note that that's jsut for the DEV directory, you can leave everything where it's supposed to be - and you shouldn't fiddle with the internal paths.

Root? You mean "C:\Fallout2\dev\proto" not "C:\Program Files\Fallout2\dev\proto"? So, putting the "dev" path in the "Program Files" folder is bad? I don't want to sound like a dick, but could you spell it out real simple? I honestly don't know what else to do.

I'll play around with it tomorrow, thanks for the help :D

Yeah, that's what I mean.

Here's the lowdown:
Code:
E:\
\---fallout2
   \---dev
       \---proto
           +---critters
           +---items
           +---scenery
           +---tiles
           +---walls
           \---misc
If that's not good enough... Um... Try finding SAD and getting the cybernetic brain instead of the defective one :P
