Mapper not starting (possible solution)

Haven't been here for awhile, but I do remember that some people had problems with offical mapper not starting at all.

Well, I didn't ever counter such problems, but my friend did. When he ran the exe it threw him back to the desktop. Today he said that the mapper works, when he runs FALLOUT2 in the BACKGROUND.

Maybe doesn't work, or maybe said already somewhere... anyway I thought you wanted to know...
 
Nope, does not work. 1day ago my mapper was working fine but now when i try to start it, it throws me to the desktop.
 
either you didn't do the full install and don't have the cd in ( so it can't get the .dat files from anywhere and hence why running fallout 2 in the background would work.. it reminds you to put the cd in... )
or you have altered something in the worldmap , cit, or maps.txt files....
another possibility is that you have a version of fallout 2 in another language other than english.. for which you need to edit the editors .cfg file to the right language...
some final possibilities are that if the mapper crashes when you try to load a map is that you either have some prototypes on the map that aren't made ( such as new critters you put in a map, then deleted the proto's ) or the filename for the mao is too long.. ( stick to 8 characters.. )

if none of these tips works, then i'm at a loss.. try a clean install of fallout 2 again...

ColJack, i want to thank you for the tip, as i was having trouble getting the editor to run after not using it for a couple of months. I had forgotten that you need the cd in the drive. :ok:

it looks like all is going right now, but i think coljack is wrong on one point, it's possible to play fallout in an other language that english and to use the editor in english. i made it for a long time...
 
i was only repeating what i was told...

i assumed that the editor would fall over because it is looking for lables for buttons and names for proto's and stuff in text/english unless you tell it otherwise..
did you hapen to have a / the patch installed that put a text/english directory in your data directory?
 
Cant load Fallout 2 Mapper

Everytime I want to start Interplays F2 Mapper my screen turns black and then goes back to Windows.

Can u help me ? my OS is XP
 
First check that you have correct settings in your mapper2.cfg file(in mapper main dir)
Main thing is critter_dat and master_dat entry, they should be set on folder where master.dat and critter.dat files can be found(in most case main Fallout 2 folder).

If that will not help then remove any mods that you used.
