Mildly Dipped
So, I encountered some probleme with the mapper lately, and I just wanted to have the advice of other modders...

First, about the city limits patch for the mapper, I have never been able to install it for the mapper. When i tried to install it with the installer, it just tell me that the access is impossible.
Is there any way to install it manually, by putting some file in the right directory?

Second, even if the mapper ain't patched, I am modding with a Killap's Restoration as a basis, so my the game itself is patched, I can have more than 49 cities in the game, but not in the mapper.
Which lead's me to my second question =>the mapper let you make exit grid for other maps only for the first 160 maps.
Does the city limit patch remove that also?
Or do I have to place all the solitar maps (the special encounters, the desert/city one, replace the enclave...) after number 160 and keep the city maps between 0 and 160?

Third:
With the mapper, I added some new walls at the end of the wall selection. I can't put them in the map fine, I click on f8, no problem. But with the game, the map bug and quit the game... And I suppose it will be the same for the scenaries.
Do I have to create new protos and put them in the proto/wall fine?
Do I need to use some info from the C\:fallout directory?

Four
On my installation, when I want to add new critters with new appearence, in the contrary to scenary and walls, the new appearences doesnt appear at the end of the critters files, and stay blocked at the Frank Horrigan critter one. I have to take a protos from a other critter, copy past it and tweak the appearance with fuck. Just out of curiosity, I am the only one to do that?

Ok, that's it for now.
Sorry for the mass of question, but I am currently adding the maps I have to the game (junktown, the glow, the Hub, Lost Hill), and i encounter a lot of unexpected problem, in the mapper, and other problem in the game...
(and my critters protos get eaten again. I was sure I had made them on "read only". Sometime I just hate the mapper...)

Maybe it is set as read only?

Yes.

You need to set all new proto files to read only or the game will delet them as soon as you start the game. That's why the game crashs -> can't find the protos. Also make a backup everytime you want to test stuff or if you want to add new stuff, etc. This way you can get away without a lot of frustration if your game is fucked up again.

It is the easiest way, imo. Take the proto of the critter that is mostly identically with yours, edit it and save it as new proto file with the next proto number.

Wow, thanks for the quick answer, so i really need to patch this mapper.
I tried with removing the read only
so what I have now is a " fallout 2 size is incorrect, should be 1189888, was 976. If this arror show with the mapper, it is apparently corrupted.

So my mapper is corrupted. Well, I kinda had guessed it, when I realize that it wasn't saving the new maps I made in the map file. I can't see them in the map window, but if I go there with the dim mapper, I can see them, save them, and then the file appear, and I can change them. But I am affraid the save copy I make forget a lots of my custom maps, and don't touch the change I made on the F2 maps...

Could this be because i have too many maps? I have the one from F2, F1, plus all mine on the same mapper.

So what's the damn right way to use this mapper?

Geez, I would be more than ready to start collect funds, so that Timeslip work on a modern version of the mapper...
