Mapping Question

Vhex

First time out of the vault
Can you make a map within a map (aka like fallout 2 where you can go between sections of a city) using some sort of grid or other option.

A big explination would help.

Hmmm, not that I know off... but why would you ?

The reason why they "probebly" used those sections in FO2 is because it would slow down the map ad gameplay... I say probebly because I don't know for sure offcourse...

I don't see the reason to make such sections, since it's probebly better to just make one big map, you can always rocks / mountaints to seperate a certain area from another...

Hope that helps

Cramming things into a huge map has drawbacks. One giant map may have an overload of triggers, AI routines, special FX, etc., and the more you add to it, the more it will come down on your system. Making an area transition and a separate area usually resolves the problem by reducing the amount of things going on at once.

True... This may have been the case is FO1 & 2,

Though I never had any problems with FOT, but then again... the maps aren't that big... I mean, not THAT big, if you know what I mean.

I guess there is no way of making different sections in the FOT map editor. I haven't checked all the trigger features but you can always try and do something with another map and see if you can make it load when you step onto a certain area... again... I don't know if such features are made into the editor, I'm not a mapper, I basicly implant triggers and baisc features... So I'd request anyone with enough mapping experience to come forward and help this guy... :D

Yeah you can do that but then again the only reason that was there in the originals was because of the limitations of the engine. Just make an exit grid and use a trigger to open a new map when you are in a specific zone. It should be easy.

I took a wild guess... But with the triggers avaiable you can do alot...

If you need any help... yell ou, there's more then enough os us who are willing to help !
