Medieval: Total war 2 improvements

No point in resurrecting the old thread, especially as I wrote the last post.

What would you like to see improved in Medieval 2? I'd like to see more strategy map interaction, for one, like cutting off supply lines to cities and armies, guerilla warfare (especially peasants). Over all, more tactics. The diplomacy in RTW is kind of a mess. I don't really know how they could improve it, as they seem to suck at it, but to make it more detailed might help.

But above all, I'd like better AI and pathfinding, It's near impossible to manoeuver units properly in order to outflank the enemy (unless that enemy is a single phalanx on an open field) due to poor pathfinding during battles. City fighting needs to be improved drastically, and it would be cool if an entire unit engaged in battle instead of a 40th of it.

Navy battles seem out of the question, anyway.

I've only played RTW on medium difficulty, does the AI get better on hard or is it still a disaster?

I wouldn't mind something like what they have in Civilization where, if you don't move an army, it reminds you to move it before letting you end your turn... or has an easy way to find unmoved armies (does this exist?). Near the end of games, i always had trouble keeping track of where all my armies were on the map.

Also, while some siege combat is nice, I wouldn't mind a deemphasis on it. I felt like every battle I fought in rome was a siege. Not very realistic.

Hopefully, a decent diplomacy system. I know in Rome, I couldn't play the game on hard because every ally I had would declare war on me. While this may be realistic, a fun game it is not. It pissed me off when, as the Gauls, Brittania, Germania, Julii and Dacia all would declare war on me, despite alliances being made (well, Julii I understand). It wasn't even as if I was undefended, they all just wanted war.

I'll add more when i think of them, haven't played the game in a while.

Yeah, a more realistic diplomacy. Like a medium difficulty with enemies that actually put up a fight. It seems there's a huge gap between medium and hard.

I only played on hard mode, so I don't know how easy stacks up, but Assassins take a frustrating amount of missions to level, even then they can't really kill much other than than ambassadors.

Assassin: level 8712831, chance to kill General Lowlynoob: 2%

Yeah, the diplomacy was a bit frustration, so was only about a fourth of your armies actually attacking.

Still, the whole thing has come a long way from Shogun:TW, that was frustrating how fast even your best trained samurai armies would chicken out and flee in a honor-based society.

Yep in the late game it was a mess!

Id like to see diplomacy to have more effect on the game. Make trade more important etc.

To make the game more fun in the tactical aspect more counter units would be nice. Unit A vs B, B vs C etc. There was like this in RTW but it
rarely made any big difference?

Strategic aspect they could add more train to use. More hills and forests. Same here it was in RTW but it was rarely used if i remember correctly.

Maybe add more upgrades to everything. So you have to think what sector you want to advance in. Something like the science tree in Imperial Glory.

This clip looks exaclty like RTW ? :D Just that its a few years later :)

Still a long while until its ready tho. It will probably look allot like RT but with more fancy graphic.

Something I just noticed is that skirmishers and missile infantry in general never react quickly enough to a cavalry charge, which is a bitch when you're defending. If I had a tiny throwing javelin and heavy knights were charging towards me, I wouldn't exactly stick around.

Another thing is agents aging. You can barely make an assassin good before he dies of old age. If you're going to make them age, at least let them have apprentices.

Or level faster, doesn't seem right that they just barely get good enough to kill a minor general in a quiet garrison far from the front just before they die of age.

Heavy modification, or even better, complete removal of RTW's Squalor effect. Having to raze my cities to the ground every few turns to prevent loss of income and revolts just got plain annoying.

good points all around. Though I wouldn't mind an easy way to keep track of my agents. I always seemed to lose/forget bout them.

And agreed on squalor. It drove me nuts constantly have revolts despite prosperity and a booming empire.

Far more developed economic model, including several diffirent paths of agricultural economic development, with differing benefits and effects.

Some kind of representation of the diffirences between Byzantine semi-Socialism, Venetian Trade based city state, Western European Feudal empires and tribal fuckwits.

More effective naval model, including important naval battles and realistic movement for naval units, and some way to improve the relationship between trade and naval supremacy.

John, don't forget it's only one game. And it's emphasis is, and will always be, battles.

Integrating the Templars in the game would be cool though. Being able to borrow money from them, and so on. Make them some kind of "senate" faction like the one in RTW, but more subtle.

How bout lastly putting lithuania in  old geazer developers never puts in whats fun ....

I think they might, as Lithuania was one of the biggest countries in Europe during the later middle ages. Doesn't mean it'll be playable, though...

Don't say this out of nationalistic feelings, though. I could ask them to put Sweden in, but I won't, because I just don't care.

Well maybe i woudnt care for it so much but theyre putting poland as a playable country ( no ofence to polish ment ) and leaves lithuania as a rogue province. gues they wont even bother to put in normal kings and princes name, again ill have to bear seeeing ivans and vladimirs or some other russian names in lithuanias dukes :(
