Melee and Unarmed Critical Damage/Chance

I read somewhere that unarmed damage has better critical hit chance and damage. Yet I went online on the Fallout Vault wikia site and compared the critical chance multiplier on the tables. I found that the melee weapons have a weapon that has a 5% critical multiplier, while the highest amount for the unarmed is 4%. Some of the weaker blunt weapons in the melee weapons category have 0%. The lowest amount for unarmed weapons is 1%. The most powerful melee weapons have 1%. As do the most power unarmed weapons.

To me, it appears that unarmed and melee weapons have mostly identical critical chance multipliers. Is this true?
