just wondering but when i finnished freeport i noticed u can recruit tyrone now he has melee weapons tagged but not sneak so whats the point surely as he approaches he gets cut to ribbons how do u use mele weapons or unarmed for that matter without sneak?? u just run up to a minigun toting guy saying uhhhhhwaaahhhhhh yaaaahhhhh (like bruce lee) tish tish bang ow! that really hurt (sorry) the guy would just shred u I was under the inpression from the stealth tutorial that melee/unarmed charecters were only usefull when sneaking so how do u use them without it???
also if u read this please trt to reply to my other thread big guns and custom campaingns/missions

As it were in fallout 1 and 2.. melee/unarmed works fine. You need the right perks though. I suggest picking Toughness to boost damage resistance, this is the most important. Secondly, if you play Turn Base, i suggest Bonus Move as well. Then Better Criticals. This will ensure your character will close the distance and manage to let off one aimed attack to the head, knock them unconcious. Or if not, he can survive an attack due to high resistance.

But as always, if you're unlucky and receive critical damage bypassing armor.. its all over. So just save your game.

i play ctb mode so are u trying to tell me my guy can survive a run up to a minigun toting enemy hh,mmmmmm how realistic is that

The dodger perk works pretty good too. That perk is the only way to take on the mutants on the hilltop in Kansas City. Otherwise the snipers will take you fill you full of holes very quickly.

I'd recommend having two or more melee weapons experts and then rushing a guy to beat the crap out of him. If you take him down fast enough, he won't have time to fire.

im asking about genral situations not specific ones concerning unarmed/melee characters

Dude......

Yeah, generally Tyrone would be a hamburger patty when he got within 50 feet. But in reality, he may have a chance, albeit a slim chance. Let's say you were standing around with a minigun at your guard post, thinking about your date tonight with a hot brahmin. In the distance you saw a BOS guy running at you. You start to aim and as you are ready to squeeze the trigger you see that he is about to rush at you with a claw hammer. The futility of his attack amuses you so much you start to laugh hysterically. By the time you regain your senses the claw hammer is sitting between your eyes as you lie on your back.

Possible??? Not very likely, but it could happen!

Don't try to think that every one on your team has to have only one specialty. Give them a couple different weapons so they can adapt to different situations and use the rest of the guys on your team to back them up.

that doesnt help me u know how about giving me a day to day game to game experience when i melee guy was used

I generally use melee specialists to protect my (prone) snipers.

my unarmed char kicks ass once u pump him full of drugs.. :) he took out a whole city for me, even though he was blinded and had a crippled right arm..... aww.. good times...

I know that melee guys can ROCK, but i dont use them. On most missions I jusy send my main guy around byhimself, sneakin, and he takes on the whole mission with a burst weapon. To be honest i only ever needed other poeple, if there was too many guys to take on by my lone man like in kansis city

Dual purpose is key. Melee characters tend to make good throw characters too, and there's never any shortage of stuff to throw. Lobbing grenades can be fantastic for flushing out enemies for your snipers and regulars to mop up. There's also a bug where you can throw frags through walls, which I won't really go into, but is a nice bit of abuse if you're of a mind.

Just pump him full of drugs
I have a guy with 250% damage resistance

I've always found melee chars important in net plays. If you have a deathclaw pumped with chems, in the right order that is or you get an unconcious one, it can slap others happy. I tend to have 1 deathclaw and 1 dog for a team of 6 game. It's amazing how fast you can scout with a dog on silent running, just pump his sneek and unarmed. The dog are also useful if the other team has a melee deathclaw too and you need the extra edge, they won't do any damage, but they are good at knocking them down. If you ever have time you GOT TO have a 1 on 1 lvl 45+ deathclaw match with a friend. It teachs you so much, and lasts pretty long too. Robots and mutants are a waste, ghouls don't do much either... Humans in Power Armor is the way to go, even gauss rifle can be winked off. Of course someone at lvl 20 walks in with a gauss minigun and blows you lvl 40 guy up, but then that's why I like no gauss and brownies mini's. Things end so fast it's just no fun.
