It's a bout a Greek immigrant to Detroit after 1922, during which they witness the Burning of Smyrna, to land up in Detroit, and hire a NoI maid, and then the main character find's out she/he/it is a hermaphite.


It won a Pulitzer and is by the same guy who wrote The Virgin Suicides.

Anyway, I don't suppose it has anything to do with the geographical location Middlesex? That was my first thought when I read the title, not until I read the description that I really understood the meaning.
