Mimezu texture pack

Mimezu

First time out of the vault
Hello everyone, this is my first post here and I wanted to share the information about the textures I am currently reworking or planning to rework in the future.

I'm really enjoying thoroughly fallout3, but I was a bit disappointed by some blurry textures.
In real life I'm working as a video game concept artist and illustrator, so even if I don't do textures professionnaly, I'm proficient with photoshop and other tools, and I thought that I might try to rework some of those blurry textures, this could be useful for the community, and would be a good training.

I don't have too much time on my hands so I won't rework a lot of textures. What I'm doing is that while I'm playing, when I see a really bad texture I write it down and I try to rework it.
My goal is to keep exactly the fallout3 feeling, so I won't change colors or shapes, I just want to add details, refine the normal maps, and things like that.

For now I've reworked the "destroyed ranch" textures (Silver's house for example), the destroyed fences, the cave sandy ground (real improvement on this one I think). And I've done a very minor tweak to the wasteland rocks.
In the future I plan to rework some of the ground textures (ground in megaton shacks for example, wich is quite blurry), some doors, some wooden planks, etc ...

You can download the files at Nexus here : http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=143

If you saw some really blurry and unacceptable texture don't hesitate to show a screenshot here and if I find some time I might look at it :)

Thanks :)

Great, great work!

Welcome to the board!

*EDIT -

Why couldn't BS get these type of results?

Well concerning Bethesda's texture, I'm pretty sure they have higher resolution textures in house. When editing those texture it was clear that they were created at higher resolution and then shrinked down.

I can see some reasons to this :
At first, xbox and ps3 version couldn't handle higher resolution textures, and anyway at 720p you wouldn't see the difference.
Secondly, if they wanted to add higher resolution textures they would have needed at least two DVD, since they would have been force to offer both version (1024 and 2048 for example) since older graphic cards couldn't support the whole game with full 2048 or 4096 textures.

But anyway they could at least have tweaked better the shrinked versions of their textures, as you can see on my screenshots, for the cave sandy ground, even without upscaling the texture, I achieved a much more precise and detailled texture.

I'm glad you are liking those, i'll try to add more in the future :)

I really enjoy these kinds of upgrades. In oblivion I seem to remember downloading a 3 gb. texture upgrade which all but acted as a full graphics update. Wouldn't mind doing that for Fallout 3. Keep it up! :D

Thanks for the nice comments :)

Here is a preview of something I will add very soon

Very nice indeed. Definitely something much much better than what vanilla game has to offer. Great work.

Hey thanks :)

I didn't had the time to work on more yet but I will definitely do it. I'll keep you updated.

does this takes it toll on my grafics card?

i'm already running it on the lowwest setting... So does it make sence if i would install it?

mhhhh it only makes sense to use it if you have your textures on "large" setting. If you are low settings I guess you shouldn't use it. The modified textures have been rescaled and takes more memory, even if there isn't a lot of them yet.
