Lived Through the Heat Death
J.E. Sawyer replied to doubts about the time and budget BIS has to do Fallout3:

I think we have enough time to get a very good game done. I'm often the first person on the team to cry, "This feature is not worth the time it takes to implement." Right now, I'm just focusing on the nuts and bolts, the basics, and working up from there.

Also Chad "Briareus" Nicholas clarified what he meant on this post:

The state machine for every NPC in the game is already setup for time cycles. Which NPCs actually end up getting timed cycles and how complex those cycles are will depend on the amount of dev/qa time we get.

We should remember he`s talking about NPC`s in general and not companions.
I hope they can make a world that really feels alive, what do you guys and girls think?

does this also show us how far into development they are? Not very? I don't know much about the development cycle though so anyone else know much about that?

I read somewhere that its targeted for 2005, so they probably aren't too far into development yet.

Full speed only at the end of 2003, but much ground work is already done, including the general story, and teams are working on the areas already.

This is from what i`ve read and from educated guesses, if you guys want to know more we can always ask the devs, what do you think?

It can't hurt to ask - it might be good to have an "officially approximate" release date in the FAQ as well. Any devs want comment?

Time Anxiety

A time frame can be double edged.

Time in a glass, half full or half empty, only enhances the illusion of this "quantity".

Got plenty, then wander the isles, pondering the merits of grade 8 over grade 5 bolts. Would it be better to bend before shearing? Would the shaft and bearings be salvageable after the NEXT performance failure?
Look at that blonde, can't tell if she's wearing ....... at this range......
closing for confirmation.........

Got none, then all concerned get hissy with hysteria with any proposed changes.

Either conceptualization can lead the unfocused astray.

"When" they feel they've educated our expectations and engaged our enthusiasm for the challenging changes and brave-new features........

I have a sense this is the deconstruction phase in the developement of the FO sequal. They are refitting pieces and puzzling the compatability and continuity of familiar features.

If "when' is a calculated piece of their presentation then it will come on cue. Until "when" saying time enough to...... flesh out the NPC's to grade 5 levels of tensile stability...... will be enough to releave time anxiety.

An estimated time probably won't mean anything, the game isn't even announced yet.

I like reading what you write 4too... LOL, usually by the time I get to the end I have no idea what I was reading about :). Lol but its cool, they are fun.

Stylin'

Thanks for the support.

I am self indulgent in my use of oblique vocubulary and non sentient sentence structure.

If you need to nail me to a "yes or no" answer please use a 4 penny,
an 8 if I wiggle, a 16 or 20 may not be necessary for an 8 common or sinker would be point enough.

Air or powder actuated are an option, but I prefer a 20 ounce, Vaughn,
straight clawed framing head on a cut down hickory ax handle. Long handle leverage with a "hint" of fashion statement.
