First of all, i was wonderin how activ this forum really is, how much effort is put into editing fallout 2, in short, how many people is really involved into modding fallout 2.
Secondly, i want to know how hard it is to mod fallout 2, i havent even started, but this game keeps poping up in my computer from time to time, i most'ha completed it about 20 times by now in short.
Mainly why i wonder this is because i would like to contribute with moding, i got alot of suggestions and ideas, mostly if not all are very realistic so to speak. That's why i ended up on these forums. just to check the depths of these waters, what's possible and whats not.
I was wondering if i could ask the bear to contribute to his recreation of fallout 2 mod or what it's name is, i played it and it was everything fallout 2 should have been, i feel like he indeed done alot of progress, but then again he clearly say that he intend to just add things that was missing from fallout 2, and not add totaly new stuff to cover, i checked around for other mod's and found a mod that somewhat combined fallout 2 with fallout 1, so there was alot of fallout 1 locations in the game, and the map was about twice as big. however this mod was buggy as hell and i dident enjoy it to much..
Dont take me wrong, but i think fallout 2 was way better the fallout 1 ever was, mainly because it seemed more realistic, fallout 1 location got sick names on theyr town like the glow and such, i have a little problem with that, nothing major, but i tend to like it when it's a pit more realistic, so to speak.
What was i thinking then, well, to make fallout 2 everything it could be, maybe scrap togheter a couple of people and just try to make the best of it, like a open-source project, everybody loves open-source .
For now my skills lies in adobe photoshop, i can do pretty much everything, but i dont know jack sheee-et about fallout 2 moding, i can just figure out that doing a completely new character would take some time, cause i ain't that stupid, i figured that they use frames for the characters, and to do all the frames need for a character can be a pain, draw gun, aim gun, fire, get hit, pick up items, draw shotgun, minigun, rocketlauncher et.c. et.c.
Weapons on the other hand cant be that hard to add, i figured, those are just pictures you use on the weapon button, and then script it so the PC uses the correct animation like, shotgun for rifle type weapon.
So what am i after :
I can either contribute to a already existing mod, if i can come up with ideas for it to..
Or.. i dont want to say i, but we could put togheter a group and start from square one and add to this..
What do you think? by all means try to answer as much of these questions as possible, and if you dont want to read some of my suggestions and quest list's.. then just skip thru the section below.
What i would like to add
Some of these might be hard to do, and these are just suggestion's. not all may be added if this project is ever going to be used... so thats just it, see it as suggestions.
Locations : Abbey, EPA, and all the other cutouts that dident make it into fallout 2.
Improve the map and make it bigger, by using the fallout 1 map to, but removing or renaming the cities for a more realistic feel, and to add for the total experience, using up as much of the map as possible for locations.
When you pick up the RANGER map you should be able to "use" the map, and get locations for some ranger safehouse's.
( i dont know how the fallout engine works for this, i heared that you could only have 48 cities, but if you do not use up a hotkey location on the sidebar, does it act as a used up city spot? )
If not, then add about 5-8 locations scattered all over the map.
Rangers encounter should be more frequently around these "safehouses"
I never joined Mazger and his slaver, but if you do? do the slavers in random encounter attack you? i think not, that would be logical. if that is true, the Mazger should be the entry point for a evil side of the quest, like you join, and the more you get to it, the more slaver location's you locate, just like the Ranger's, the Slaver's should have safehouse's on diffrent location all thru the map, with more slaver activity around these spots.. the PC should even be able to find the hidden Slaver camp that is used to attack vault city.
Probley a quest for the slavers would be to attack vault city but the drawback, just as sarge says they do in vault city.
A totaly free control of the PC, if the PC feels like it, he should be able to join the enclave and help them take over the world. <- this might be hard to do.
Brotherhood of steel should play a much bigger roll.
More special encounter i.ex Remenants of the USMC.
maybe a new location of a quickly makeovered military base with remenants of the USMC's.
Alot more vault's. With diffrent numbers, Was thinking of three examples, a vault that got half the city on the outside (resembling vault city, but with diffrent view, no slaves there to help people), and the rest of the city inside a mountain, this way the city should be hard to find. And another vault, that hassent been opened yet, and when the PC discover it the NPC's in there is all shocked that people already left their vault's. New quest involves to help this vault with supplies to build up a small establishment outside the vault. the third vault should be built like the one in the intro movie, and with holodisk with information describing how the enclave is making progress into the lower levels attacking everything, all supplies should be gone except maybe some good weapon that is very hard to find, and the vault computer should still be operational, but damaged, so the PC would need to fix it in order to get information about diffrent vaults or such.
Point by point list of quests
These are just suggestions, can be altered, and are just what i suggest to add for now, and what i can think of at the moment.
The orignal quest are still there but not described in detail.
If detailed, those are the change's in that quest.
Arroyo
- Finish Tempel of Trials
Maybe change the monsters in the tempel, from ant's to rat or something like that. also make traps abit more dangerous, keep the civilized way to talk your away out of fighting.
- Repair well
- Rescue smoke
The NPC that gives you this quest (cant remember his name) should describe what a Gecko is like, and tell the PC that it might be a better choice to sneak past them rather then to fight them.
- Destroy the evil plants
Have a second option that involves the PC to talk to a NPC (not yet figured out who) and make that NPC join in to kill the plants (or if possible make the NPC kill them himself *civilized way to complete task* )
- Improve unarmed skill
Maybe make the NPC require a special item before teaching (to easy quest as it is now)
- Improve melee skill
If possible, PC must have a melee weapon in inventory for this quest to be avaible.
- Help Arroyo warrior hunt
Undefined NPC gives you this quest in village, ask you to help him and his warrior in a hunt that they got some troubles with, maybe with Gecko's (Undefined)

Klamath
- Refuel the still
Should give you some booze as thanks too, booze is somewhat whortless in fallout 2 but helps in realism.
- Rescue smiley the trapper
Should have atleast 2 locations in Klamath with boots.
- Guard the Brahmin
Remove those whortless Scorpion claws. (do they do anything at all in fallout 2?)
- End Klamath's rat problem
Maybe change this, i mean, rats? Klamath got trappers that hunt and skin Gecko's. and they fear rat's? + i dont really like that big ass rat they got, okay the pig rat looks like a mutation, but the biggest rat, thats just plain.. i dont know.. sick. Make the quest with a rat / Gecko problem, and have the NPC say that the cave's down below got invaded by Gecko's, they outnumbered em and now everybody fears to go down there and clear the problem.
- Improve melee and unarmed skill
No change, This is a nice guy, and works perfect in the Fallout 2 world.
- Rustle the Brahmin
Never done this quest in Fallout 2, so i cant really say to much about it.
- Free Sulik from his debt
Keep this.
- Kill the broken down mr?
Dont know anything about this quest.
- Bring the Danton brothers to justice
I'd figure that you should put in a sheriff building, nothing to fancy tho, with only one sheriff.. and he should help the PC with question about Klamath, Give direction's to the Den, when asked about the situation in klamath he should redirect about the rat problem but say that Klamath is somewhat in the good otherwise. This quest should only be avaible if the PC can figure out about the Dalton brothers Rustle. and then you could be able to tip em of to the sheriff, whom is forced to do something about it and throw them both in jail. ( maybe just one of them, so the other one could wine about how bad of a person you are.) just think of it, the sheriff goes over to the dalton to bust them, and both the brothers start to blame each other.. and then the sheriff gives the PC the choice of whom to bust, should go something like this.
* Bust Buck.
* Bust Chuck.
* Bust em' both, i cant even see the diffrence between them.
I do not want to flood the forum as my first action. so i let it rest for her, if you want to know more of my suggestions then just ask for it. otherwise i guess you' figured out what i want by now. so yeah.. just ask away, come with suggestion, tell me how hard it is, ask me if you want me to contribute with these ideas to your mod, or if there are people out there that want to get togheter and start up a new mod with me and make the best of fallout 2.
Just a side note, If this result into a new mod in the making, i will not consider myself as the "leader" of the mod or something like that, i mean, we all contribute and we all get credit for it, on the other hand, i would consider that there would be 2-4 pepole that would be consider having a lead roll in the mod. Myself for starter, and then the people that help to script this togheter, as scripting is a b*tch to do, if this mod gets kickin, then we can consider takin in more suggestions, and no suggestion will be turned down in my eyes. we'll consider them all, and alter them if we have to. but credits allways goes where due.
