Mods

First time out of the vault
Ok, this is my first post so bear with me if this has been covered before.

I've replayed Fallout 1 and 2, with Restoration Packs included. Now I'm looking for some mods which create entirely new yet rich story and possibly settings.

Could someone lead me to the light?

Well, here's a quick list ("slightly" biased too):

*) Mutants Rising 8-) We're building a whole new adventure in the Fallout universe, related somewhat to Fallout 2 (character-wise). We haven't finished yet, but we have a demo that you're welcome to check out.

*) Ardent's Mod -> My solo work. Not finished either, but the demo offers a couple of good hours of gameplay, and there are forking questlines etc. Check out my sig for links.

*) Shattered Destiny -> A little short, but well-crafted and interesting mod by Lexx. Also, this is a complete story with beginning and end, so it feels more satisfying to complete it, than other demos. To download it, check out the Files section here on NMA, or locate any post by Lexx and look for links in his signature. Lexx is very active, so it shouldn't be a problem.

*) Fallout of Nevada -> This is a quasi-finished total conversion mod, but you won't be able to play without a decent knowledge of Russian. There has been a "Google special" "translation" made, but it is of little help, if you want to get deeper in the story. Not really sure where to find the latest version, but googling it should help you.

*) Last Hope Mod -> This is apparently a completed total conversion mod by Forgotten Knight. It has some nasty bugs that prevent you from finishing it, and I'm not sure they have been fully addressed in the latest version, which would be, if I'm not mistaken, 1.07. It's still very much worth checking out, because Forgotten Knight did a good job on the mod, despite the bugs. Link: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33178&highlight=last+hope+mod

*) Fallout 1.5: Resurrection -> A Czech total conversion mod. According to the authors, it is nearly completed and should be released some time this year. I haven't had a chance to check it out, but so far reviews from playtesters have been very promising. Link: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60269

*) Fallout: Between Good & Evil -> Another chiefly Czech mod. No playable content is available so far, but Lizard is adamant it will get done sooner or later, and there are plans for a soon-ish release of the first chapter of the game. Link: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33726&start=240

And last, but not least:

*) Olympus 2207 -> This is not your usual Fallout 2 mod, because it features a completely new setting, only using Fallout 2 engine. All graphics have been redone for this game, so it's worth checking out, even if it's just for the art (but the story and scripting is just as good). Thank you for the reply!

After I made the thread I found Mod thread in the stickies and all links were dead, including Mutants Risings which I wanted to check out.

Since I'm Polish myself, can you suggest any strictly Polish mods I should be aware of ? (Noticed that most are either Czech or Russian)

Lastly, I've made my first steps into FO 2238, but I'm curious if there are any equally (or more) developed Online MMO like mods available?

Thanks for the help.

P.S. I'm a Fallout and generally Post Apocalyptic junkie, so I'd appreciate any MMO/RPG references in such direction.

I'm having an issue with the download of MR mod. AtomicGamer stays idle, even after the waiting time. Is there any alternative download link?

No problem, glad to help :)

I have no knowledge of any mods developed in Polish that would currently be alive, sorry. On the other hand, I haven't been following our home Fallout modding scene, so I may not be the right guy to ask. Try Cubik2k - I believe he has a much better idea of what's happening around Schron Trzynasty or other Polish Fallout-related sites.

I don't think so. And to be precise, FOnline isn't a mod - it's a game that uses original Fallout graphic assets, but the engine is made from scratch.

About your problem with downloading MR:

Alternate Smart installer download: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?aed197cd8dck623
Patch 1.01 download: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ojjvjfhqrujjkos

Install the demo with the installer first. It should create a "MutantsRising" folder in your Fallout 2 installation folder. Then unzip the Patch ZIP file into the MutantsRising folder. Windows should ask you whether you want to overwrite some files, and you should agree.

Since Mutants Rising plays a little bit differently than regular Fallout 2, make sure to read the readme for some gameplay information and tips and tricks.

Let me know if you have any further issues with the installation. Have fun and let us know about your impressions, either here or here. Thanks in advance! :D

Also keep in mind, that FOnline: 2238 is very different from the "normal" Fallouts. It looks the same, but mechanical wise it is quite different.

You forgot this little beauty - a masterpiece in the making, and it's Polish. 8-) FALLOUT MAD MAX RETURNS

Oh, right. You know, the more we hear from Arek, the more I'm thinking he's the ultimate troll, and that he's not really making any mod. He just throws together some unbelievable shit in 5 minutes and posts it as screenshots or a movie, or an interface screen and then laughs his ass off at people trying to give him advice, bash him or praise him (that last bit must no doubt be the funniest one).

Well, he asked for mods that can be played already... :>
