More about unarmed weapons

Dan

Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
Richard "Akari" Taylor, BIS Programmer, made a little comment about unarmed weapons in Van Buren:

The engine supports 'weapons' that would augment your kicks just as it supports weapons that augment your punches. Not sure what the actual kick-augmenting stuff would be as of yet, but the code is in place to handle it.
Link: thread

mmm, powerboot.

I just hope they don't go crazy with the unarmed system. Puuk made a comment about a "burst kick" that sounded a whole lot like Chun-Li from Street Fighter's kick. uggg....

Steel Toes and Stiletto Heels

So, I can conform to OSHA safety rules and wear steel toes to FO 3.
I can come from work and jump in with both feet!

Stiletto heels. All the FO neophytes that Chuck's FO:BOS will attract will be glad to know that their fetish needs can be stimulated and simulated in Van-Bee.

This goes beyond fashion statement. Sheer utilitarian genius.
Kicking shins with steel toes and gouging groins with stiletto heels.

Social interaction in the post apocalyptic age can't get better!

I'm curious how these items will be equipped. In the previous games, all items placed in the quick slots were held in the hands. If boots are worn, it offers the opportunity to wield the boots on your feet and an additional weapon in your hands.

Flurry kick?

Alright, this is just silly sounding.

Look, to me, you're going to add a heavy "cheese/corniness" factor by putting in some of this "unarmed combo" stuff. Seriously, it sounds like super power mega attacks from Street Fighter games and Tekken.

I don't want a comparison of all the modes and methods of attack unarmed that I get with a submachinegun. I want capitilization on the advantages of unarmed attacks in the way they are realistically beneficial -- not from some superhumanly unrealistic book of moves from an anime fighting game.

Well the two weapon slots were your kicks and punches when empty. Why not just equip footwear to the "foot" slot, and fistwear to the "hand" slot.

To me it sounds like you'll just be able to make multiple attacks with a penalty to your hit percentage. How that sounds unreasonable is beyond me.

Agree: keep it simple.

Like when a melee attack gets "under" one's gun. One might want the option of "auto" sweep kick, or an "auto" shin kick, to buffer the real$time computer controled melee "tank rush" against our too, too human reflexes.

Like the "kick" feature in that Lord Of The Rings console game.
One can push off an attacker, or take then off their feet.

Not dig through a menu of martial arts moves. picking the Bee-king Duck in column A and the General Chew Horse Kick in column B.

If it's to be real$time it must be reflexive or the AI will eat our lunch.

If it's to be turn based a simple selection will keep our short attention spans engaged, or we might wander off to watch the grass grow or whatever the market'eers suspect is distracting us gamers these days.
Wouldn't be boring games would it? But if I was smart enought to know, I'd be rich, wouldn't I? So listen to the smart money and bet your bucks on Enron, or Vivendi.... or "real$time".......

To leave this at a positive note, the dev's say they can do the mix of time modes. Perhaps the retreading of "melee" and close combat will
spice up the real$time for our digitally enhanced cousins. Perhaps this Brave New Turn Based will energise us stodgy stratigists.
