mutated toes?

First time out of the vault
I was wondering what mutated toes can be used for. Should I 'get' them in the Toxic Caves? Won't they mean disadvantage while kicking? :D

You can eat them or have someone else eat them. Beats me why you'd want to do thi, though.

Why not? Unless you plan to gain Vault City citizenship through the test, and not the quest. The toes prohibit you form doing so.

No. Mutated Toes don't work that way.

Eating them will give you a permanent decrease in HP, though. And eating is done by using them, at all, so don't.

The decline in HP is not permanent. This is according to Per's guide, which seems to be down at the moment. Fortunately I have a copy on local disk... Anyway, there is a persistent rumor (both in and out of game, oddly enough) that the toe can be used on the end boss. Unfortunately it does the same thing to you him as it does to you; that is reduce your max HP by 3. Supposedly you could repeat the toe process 333 times to get enough to whittle away his 999 hit points... but that would be... odd to say the least.

Yes, in fact, it can be used on any critter. The effect is the same.

And this rumour is bullshit; using the toe won't stop New Reno passers-by from screaming out the same old routine.

But then again, it'd take a hundred or so combat turns, wouldn't it? Not to mention you'd have to amputate the toe 333 times ;)

I *think* you can get up close to him and use toes on him *before* combat starts. You may have to use SNEAK, I'm not sure. Yes, you'd have to do the entier "toe quest" 333 times. If I had Fallout 2 on this machine I'd load up the editor and simply put 333 toes in my inventory to try, but I don't at the moment. I may get back to this thread on that....

I seem to remember that when I used the toe on him, his HP read "999/996", so maybe it doesn't even do anything if you get him down to 0 max HP (except preventing him from resting up for a week). You could try loading lots of toes into your inventory and try it out on a low-HP critter first.
