My apologies... *it works! another question, though*

who

First time out of the vault
here's the deal, i used to spend countless hours playing fallout 2. after a while, i grew tired of it; but recently i decided to dust off my old copy of the game.

while doing a search for the character editor, i came across the mods that this site offers for the game. i decided that some of these mods might breathe some new life into the game, so i downloaded a few.

my problem came when i attemped to use the ultimate warfare mod

now, i'm not the most computer literate person out there, so you guys will have to bear with me here...

i attempted to extract the zip file to the fallout 2 folder as listed in the directions. this simply made a new folder inside the fallout2 folder titled "UWM". this folder contained the "data" subfolder which contained the art, protos, etc. folders. of course, this made no difference in the game.

i then extracted the zip to the data folder in my fallout2 folder. no luck here either.

finally, i manually copied the data files from the extracted zip files, and replaced the fallout2 data files with the ones in the UWM folder. this didn't work either.

so, what am i doing wrong?

isn't there a program that will automatically extract the files into the proper locations? if so, can you point me in the right direction?

i'm using windows XP if that makes a difference.

thanks in advance!

Really easy here. Take that data folder that was created when you extracted UW mod, and place it in your Fallout 2 folder. When you installed FO2, inside the folder there was the game, critter.dat, master.dat, and a datta folder, right? The data folder from the mod is supposed to overwrite the one that was installed. Also, if you have a patch000.dat file, either remove or rename it.
So, your FO folder should have the above named files, and a data folder containing a maps, data, proto, etc. subfolders.

thanks for the quick reply!

this is actually the first thing i did. when it didn't work, i manually replaced the data files in the fallout2 folder with the UW data files.

...i was suprised when it didn't work

will the patch.dat file make a difference? if so, could that be causing the problems?

either way, i'm going to try doing it all over again. knowing me, it was user error

i'll try again and report back in a little while.

Yes, and yes again.

The patch000 will overwrite the data folder with the data thats inside the patch000 file

ok, this time i deleted the fallout2 data folder and replaced it with the UW data folder, and it worked.

before, i had just deleted and replaced the individul folders inside the fallout2 data folder.

thanks, guys!

...now another question.

this mod really slowed down the game. about half the time(especially when i access my inventory list), the cursor is just dragging.

is there a fix for this, or is it just the nature of these mods?

could my slow computer be the problem? the game ran fine before...

Sorry, can't help you there. I've never played this mod. My only advice is to just make sure there is nothing else running in the background.
