Hey there folks!
My PC runs up but the monitor stays on the power saving mode :(
i checked the connections but everything seems to be fine.the dvd-rom tray opens but i don't hear any windows start sound and the monitor simply stays on the power saving more.
any ideas?

If you do not hear windows logon sounds and you harddrive is not working ( so you don't see it flashing, which would mean booting) then you may have a BIOS or hardware related problem.

What I would suggest:

remove RAMs and put them back, or use another slot.

Reset bios with jumper (if you cannot even get to bios, heh, you got a problem)

Remove GPU (videocard) and try a different one.

PM me if you have all of this and the problem insists.

Thanks for the help.
I'll have a friend of mine do these stuff because i ain't really familiar with hardware and stuff like that.
I'll see if it works and i'll pm you.
thanks a lot!

If he does not hear booting or windows logon sounds then surely it is not the monitor

Yes, when the pc shuts down, the monitor automaticly turns off.

THX 4 ALL CAPZ TITLEZ... Edited.

Sorry, my mistake. Didn't knew anything about that! :D

I dunno if this helps but i had similar problem with a laptop.
Monitor suddenly shuts down but i can hear all the sounds going on and everything else seems to be in order. This happened often when i was watching videos(even flash was a problem)

I found out i had updated my graphics card driver with something that was ok with the GC itself but not with the laptop.

So maybe try swithing drivers?

Happened to me a few times as well, but never happened again. Knock on wood.

1) drivers are corrupted. try to install new ones

2) if you just installed new drivers, revert to old drivers

3) the video card may be bad, try another

4) the cable from mobo to vid card may be bad, try using a different one

first 4 things that came to me

hmmmm, i removed the ram and put it back but the problem was still there. I also removed the graphics card and put it back again and it still didn't show a thing.
I am buying an ICY BOX today to remove my HDD because there are some documents in it that i need.
my guess is that the graphics card might have some problems because i can't even get to bios. the monitor doesn't show shit.
damn, my cute lil 8800 ultra :(
the problem is that i don't know anyone that i can try my graphics card on his pc. There is a store that can check my pc and tell me where the problem is but they take something like 35 euros just to check it.
i think ill just get the ICY BOX for now(18 euros) and i will think about repairing my pc as soon as i have some money. Thank god that i bought this netbook. but i don't know if i can use a netbook for long periods of time.

I've had a similar problem: my video card was toasted. Only difference was that sometimes my computer started normally, then it would go into that state.

The thing is that i am not sure if its the graphics card either. I mean when i start the pc, the gpu fan starts to spin normally.
Could it still be that the gpu is damaged?

certainly - i mean the GPU is the mostly likely thing to stop working in a video card (in my personal experience, that is)... the fan can run all day long as long as it has power, regardless if the rest of the vid card remotely operates anymore

I'd have to agree with Rev., any fan is going to run as long as it's supplied power.

I'm going to bet your card is hosed.

Only other thing I can think to try is to move the card to another PCI slot, I've encountered slots going "bad" before.

yeah, that is a good idea, pope - didn't even think of that - i've had slots go bad on me (usually a sign that the mobo is gonna die sooner than later, however - if true)

i am bringing it to this store. they will be testing it. lets hope that the HDD isn't toasted because my whole life i in there. i do have some backup but still it would be a pain in ze arse!

Double post!

Okay, my GPU is toasted, which one of these is worth buying ?

1.Colorful GeForce 9600 GT, 512MB GDDR3, 2x DVI, TV-out, PCIe 2.0 - € 95.90

2.Elitegroup N9800GT-512MX-F, GeForce 9800 GT, 512MB GDDR3, 2x DVI, TV-out, PCIe 2.0 - € 111.90

3.Gainward BLISS GeForce 9600 GT, 512MB GDDR3, 2x DVI, TV-out, PCIe 2.0 - € 92.80

4.Gainward BLISS GeForce 9800 GT, 512MB GDDR3, 2x DVI, TV-out, PCIe 2.0 - € 115.90

5.MSI R4850-T2D512 Dual Slot, Radeon HD 4850, 512MB GDDR3, 2x DVI, TV-out, PCIe 2.0 - <s> € 173.80</s> € 139.90

I have 2 9600 GTX and for their value they are really good cards. I played(very little) of Fallout 3 on max, and run L4D on max everything and my computer hardly blinks so, I'd definitely recommend those :D
