My thoughts on FO3

Naissus

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I am maybe half way through the game right now. I do enjoy the exploring, some of the quests (though none so far are extremely memorable), but the game does not feel like a Fallout game. It is more like a post-apocalyptic game inspired by Fallout. The first Fallout game I played was Fallout 2, I loved dark humor, characters, quests, atmosphere, story, and artwork. While FO3 does have great atmosphere, and the story is not too bad, the characters still feel pretty bland and unoriginal. I wished they had made the characters in the game more unique and in some way more tailored to the environment they grew up in. When I play KOTOR and then play Mass Effect they feel like two different game even though they were made by the same people. Now when i play Oblivion and then FO3, FO3 feels like a total conversion of Oblivion. While FO3 is much better than Oblivion I think the developers should take their focus away from the sandbox play and start developing characters and meld the characters into the story and show how the game world, characters, story is changed due to your actions or inaction's. That is just my two cents.

PS-Did anyone else ever think that you were playing Bioshock every now and then?

I think someone drew that conclusion in another thread

In just one? :P You could blindfold yourself, and throw a pebble towards this forum and probably hit a thread that drew a conclusion similar to that.

Naissus pro tip: forget that its fallout and ignore the main quest . and the tunnels.
And try to enjoy it.

yeah, as soon as winter break hits I'm going to replay Fallout 1 & 2. i might even play Tactics again. I will have to play with the expansions and mods that are on here as well.

The game is another Gamebryo tech demo. Make a big sandbox location, throw in some voice-acted NPCs, and cook up lightweight RPG stats to generate the illusion of character progression and make console gamers feel like they're playing a "real RPG."

Remember folks, this is the "best game of this generation." Game critics were right about Oblivion, and they're surely right about this one.

I did that on my second character. Eventually all I was left with was collecting weapons and apparel to no end or meaning. Exploration became very boring after the tenth (or so) same-ish location with no story or exposition. On the third day of playing with that character I put the game down for good.
