Nasty Recruit Pool bug

First time out of the vault
After rescuing Mayor Avellone in Springfield, I return to base to change recruits and get on with Mardin. Alas, when I talk to Recruit Master and press recruit button, a death sound appear, and the pool only got some of those recruits, with one pic of Farsight appear dead, gray picture (And Farsight is just with me). The recruits appear in the pool is the ones I chose to rotate (There's six, excluding the gray pic of Farsight).

just for laugh, I rotate babs out, got dead Farsight in. a dead body of her appear at my feet, with identical equipments like the living standing over there. I take all the items then open up the recruit pool. lo and behold the recruits are still those seven number ( +babs) and another gray pic of Farsight. Rinse and repeat is kinda old...

Anyone got ideas how to fix that bug? Specifically, I want all my recruits back, even if I dont want to chose them yet?
 
Except for the dead Farsight it sounds a lot like the demotion bug.

Check your rank did you get demoted at some point? Perhaps from failing secondary objectives in earlier missions? If you have been demoted, then presumably getting promoted will fix the bug or at least let you see the other recruits. Though you might have to avoid the recruit master in that particular bunker afterwards.

As to why there's a dead Farsight, did you return her to the pool at any stage poisoned or otherwise near death?

Otherwise you'll just have to go back to an earlier save.
 
I was Senior Knight and that doesn't change. I rotated Farsight quite often (once every mission) along with my main group, at perfect or near perfect health.

The dead Farsight got same rank as the living, but 0 exp.

Perhaps I shall have to return to earlier saves. But I dont looking forward to hours of replay. sighed :cry:

EDIT: and looking back more carefully at the txt files, I realize that I dont have the all starting recruits: out of 5 starting recruits I lack Robin, Jax, torn. 8 more recruits appear after Brahmin Woods normally. Check back the saves definitely bug appear during or after Springfield. the save "before mission" is still normal.
 
Did any civilians get killed during springfield? That could of demoted you and completing the mission objectives would of promoted you up again.

Otherwise have you tried putting the living Farsight back into the pool, perhaps along with the rest of your squad, and then leaving the bunker? Then either return to the bunker and try the recruit master or go back to bunker alpha and try the recruit master there.
 
Tried it:

the dead and the living both exist in the pool, and theres only 6+5+1dead. return the first time +1 more dead farsight. the second +1 more... you got the idea.

I relaod the "before mission save) and chose to play Mardin instead. Play normally, become Knnight Commander (rank 8) when I was level 8, got a bunch more recruits (15 total: BOS, raider, DC and Ghouls). Still no sign of Jax, Torn and Robin (damnn :evil: )

Now I will try once more to play Springfield. If the problem still exist, perhap I will reextract the mission file of it (or should I reextract it now?)

Does the 127 patch do anything to the mission file of Springfield? that's the 120 minutes question.
 
Duh, couldn't be the demotion bug, since you'd need to be busted down to civilian to get a lower rank than Farsight. Only time that tends to happen is after Newton when swapping places with one of the Reavers. Though the duplication does sound a lot like it.

Nope patch doesn't touch Springfield, have you extracted any files? If not the ones that you can see in the core directory are the patched versions (all the files in the bos files are unpatched).
 
Agree about not demotion bug. I was very careful about civilian casualty as well as reputation, so as to not lower my rank...

Using FT booster and FT editor may lead accidentally to changing some files (nosing around the editor a few times).

Talk about nosing around txt. I notice the trigger

{mission07a;add;entities/recruits/dc01.ent......

it mean mission 07 is Mardin. Now if I play Springfield before Mardin, it mean mission 07 became springfield, not mardin, then the game confuse then perhaps that bug appear. Hokay. So I will try finish the Springfield once again.

After using the booster, or using winzip to unpack the bos files you should reapply the patch.

Not at all, that's just an identity tag so the scripters knew what to do and which to link up and when. They could of had {deathclaws;add;entities/recruits/dc01.ent......
or {mardin;add;entities/recruits/dc01.ent......

either would of worked just as well.

It doesn't matter which order you do those missions in, the campaign triggers are set in the actual mission map not the text files.
 
Nevertheless, now that I finish Springfield I can confirm that the bug does not appear.

So that mean, if I play Springfield before Mardin, then the bug appear. And if I play Mardin before Springfield then the game is normal. While it might be that play in whatever order is okay, if you meet another bug like this, play other mission before springfield.

Ah, well. Chalk it up to another bug of good ol Fallout Tactics!
 
I've just been power gaming through to quincy (with 10CHA character) and played springfield straight after and I can't duplicate your problem.

Much more likely you somehow broke the recruit pool before. All that swapping recruits around most likely. :)
 
So that's mean it's just a random bug, not a consistant bug huh? Well well, we shall learn to live with them then. :x
 
Demotion bug?!?

Hi Everybody,

I started off in bunker Alpha farsight, Stich and my own Character (I think thats normal) they finished two successive missions.
Farsight got to level 5 but since she was injured (i think bandaged) I let her rest mission or two.

I came back and recruited her again at Bunker Betta and Farsight has gone right back to level one no expierence.

She went from level 1 to 5 (First 2 missions) back to 1 again (Fourth misssion)

Is this some tripped out bug or did she get a really bad knock on her head?

Also if this has alreayd been addressed sorry the search function didn't give me much only...

Never seen it before, but it sounds like the same thing in the other thread, corrupted game/recruit pool so it's loaded the original character file.

Sounds so similar I'm merging the threads.

If you have a saved game before you re-hire her, then I'd load that up and return to bunker alpha and see if you still get the vigin character file.

I'd LOVE to give that a try but I oversaved...Bollocks.

Ah well I'm only up to about the fifth mission so I'll start from square a again if I notice an of my other characters (Stich, Trevor) that I've rested have also lost their expierence points.

If anyone wanted to know this bug was recorded in the DVD collection under the 1.13 patch...

Okay after patching to 1.27 it appears recruits now retain both their XP and their items unlike before patch.

Now I use betty and oddly enough she FLATY refuses to use the hunting rifle or the Ak47 which really sucks.
It says "Can Not Use" in red and the weapon is highlighted in red also.
Is this normal I couldn't find it in the seach function either and thought it didn't make much sense since she has 70% small arms now.
She doesn't mind any other small arm I've given her cept those 7.62mm ones really weird.
(Checking/Downloading manual)

If gun red, from my experience i can say that maybe a gun is broken or your character hasn't enough strength.

All i wanted to know was whether it was a bug or not.
