NCR gun carrying bug?

Has anyone experienced this one before.

I am bringing a relatively low level character into NCR (6th level) without guns or weapons in hand and I keep getting the "holster your firearm warning" and then the cops unload on me.

This is the first time I am in NCR! The character is wearing metal armor and has melee weapons as skill specialization. What gives?

I suspect that this is a bug and I am playing over a previously saved game where the "don't carry weapons" rule was broken. Any thoughts?
 
Do you have any companions? If so, they need to put away their weapons as well. Remember that Goris' claws also count as a weapon.
 
It's something of a known problem, but I can't see anything in the scripts that would cause it, and it doesn't seem to happen under controlled circumstances (i.e. for me). Most of the time I suspect people forget that their NPCs carry weapons, don't know if that's the only cause though.
 
That was my first thought as well. I actually I had gotten around it by making sure I was not carrying weapons by bringing a lockpick set and a shovel. But yes, I had companions, and no they were not armed.

I suspect what's happening is that I saved over and old game, and a scripting error went from one game to the next.

The problem with that explanation is that it would be about as reasonable to surmise that evil salamanders live in your processor fan.
 
I know, but I do suspect that you live in my processor fan.

I can't figure this one. No matter what I do, the game thinks I am packing guns into NMA when I nor my buddies are.

I think they just don't like tribals.
