Need help with recording Fallout 1.

Okay, here is what I want to do.

I want to play and record Fallout 1 while recording the game audio, and my microphone audio so I can put it up on You-tube.

I have the newest full version of FRAPS, but for some reason, when I run it, the game start to lag something awful, and the cursor flickers off and on. Basically, its unplayable.

Another problem I'm having is my monitor being such a high resolution, and wide-screen the game looks awful! Can anyone point me a way to run it in windowed mode? I hear there is a engine tweak for FO1 that can do this, but haven't found it, and I've searched exhaustively.

I've tried Camstudio which recorded beautifully, however it wont do game + mic audio at same time. I tried some other recording program called Taksi which wouldn't record microphone.

I've heard the problem might be related to DDRAW. Ive heard people suggest sfell as a solution but haven't found a version which runs on FO1.

Ive heard of a program called 3D3 Windower, but im anxious about downloading it due to reports of viruses on it.

You can use dosbox to play fallout 1.That way it will be windowed...Also it have recording function.

In the files section there's also a high res patch, if you want to play fullscreen and not have hideous resolution.

You'll need to make sure you have a DOS version of fallout.exe

Hi ! I post here because I have the same problem.

I want to record some videos of FO1. Fraps don't work, of course, and I have tried BSN Screen Recorder. It works better, but ... when I launch the game, the screen appears small and buggy in a corner, and the sound is a little shifted with the video.

Do you know a better capture software, or do you know what to do with BSN ?


I have the Steam version of FO1, with the PNO and the High Resolution Patch.

Windows 7 64 bits.
